After 2 first round exits when you were the favorite? Yup.
3 first rounds exits? Yup.
4 first round exists? Yup.
Miss the playoffs for the first time in 16 years? Yup.
After about 10+ no shows/collapses this season? Yup.

How this guy has survived all that is mind blowing.

He even survived when all the assistants were fired in 2020. They let Gonchar, J Martin, and Recchi go and kept him around. I really don’t get it.

One modification: Malkin to Florida for Knight, Samoskevich & a 2nd. I would then flip the second to Minnesota for Fleury and extend him a year to mentor Knight and Bloomqvist.

One addition: IMO a Karlsson trade gives you the best chance to retool. If Norris is available as rumored, I'm shooting my shot for him. More likely a Chabot trade though.

The only two untouchables for me are Crosby and Letang. Unless they ask to be traded they stay.

I don't think Malkin has any real value, I just think Kuzy is a better player on a shorter contract that the Caps are eager to get rid of, hence the picks and the prospects thrown in, maybe they retain some plus Not sure Florida would eat 6 million in Malkin's Salary for what he brings

Agree with the Flower part

I don't think the teams winning any cups even with a retool. I'm eager to see more of Karlsson. If it didn't work at all next year I'd move Karlsson along with Sid at next years deadline, I'd keep him past the "Summer Retool"

If Karlsson came to Pittsburgh to win:

1) Was he on drugs when he decided to come here?
2) Does he stay here?

Its weird that I have been more down on Malkin than anyone yet I am the only one who thinks he has trade value. I thought I was being exceptionally conservative on that proposal. Knight has a $4.5M contract and is buried in the A. Sam is a top notch prospect and a 2nd next year. I think thats pretty modest.

What I don't get is that he blocked trades to Carolina and others to come here... I did think he was going to put our PP over the top, but you can tell he is kicking himself.

Wonder if both he and Carolina would reconsider...?

Not sure if firing him now will be worth it. Activate full tank mode now. Save the coach firing for the offseason. However, if they don’t do it because “he is the right man for the job”, then I hope the entire fan bases rebels. Sullivan is being treated by the FO like he is the Pope.

Is Knight salvageable? Got to be a reason Florida has him buried and nobodies come calling

Malkins bad this year and I think he's gonna be worse for the next 2. That might concern a "win now" team. Caps are desperate to get Ovie his record. That connection while taking on Kuzy's contract might entice them more

Yea I knew after last 2 games tonight would be a beat down, didn’t bother to turn it on and have checked the score board only to not be surprised at all. Seems like a full collapse at this point.

Eller would be a nice add for a contender. I was pretty meh on that signing, but he's done nothing but impress me. Not quite the same player, but very solid. Reminds of what Cullen did for the Pens.

Doesn’t Sid train with the kid who will go #1 this year? I feel the lottery will be in our favor…

Totally agree. If they were in a spot where he could be a 4th line center on a good team he would crush the role.

But he’s like a nice cd player in a car that is literally somehow both underwater and on fire on this team.

Going to try to put a positive spin on this...

All season we've had a team that looked pretty decent. Good fancies, but kept coming up short. It's better these last two games happened. That way there's nobody who can fool themselves. Players can't be pissed when the rug is pulled. Maybe even Sullivan gets the spotlight shown on him like it should.

I have to be honest, I was a little worried the Pens were going to give us a little glimmer of hope before the deadline. That would have made Dubas decisions a lot more difficult. Not to mention the players would be all pissed off if a few guys get traded.

He's cheap and a good bottom 6. He wouldn't fetch much. He's a guy I would keep

Curious what people want in trades:

1) NHL ready prospects - these guys probably have lower ceilings, but they are younger and could step right into the NHL

2) Prospects with higher ceilings but longer waits until the NHL plus no promise they even make it to the NHL

3) Draft picks

4) Other NHL talent
