There just aren't enough buyers with space or even assets for all the guys that are supposed to be available.

So many top teams traded away their 1sts and 2nds for the next couple seasons.

- BINGO!

Cap space shouldn't be a problem in moving Jake. Pens can eat half and take a contract. Obviously, meeting the asking price might be a problem 'cause teams don't part with top prospects all that often.

I dont think those are the problem at all when it comes to a Jake trade. We can eat 50%, pay a 3rd party to retain (would only cost a 5th or so) and possibly take back a contract to make it work. Toronto, Dallas, Vegas, Edmonton, Colorado, LA, NYR & Carolina all have a need and a full assortment of 1st round picks to make it happen.

The big problem for Dubas is that more teams are realizing they are not getting in and are prepared to sell, which means both more supply and fewer buyers. So if you are one of those teams and you have multiple needs, would you rather spend 2 1sts on Jake or Eberle and Henrique?

Dubas needs to play these Western teams off of each other. Need to get an overpay by playing Colorado, Vancouver & Edmonton off of each other. Can't wait to the last minute on Jake.

So... season pretty much over after these last 3 losses? Such a damn pity... loser point against the Kracken and not choking against Van and this loss doesnt matter much.

And i still somehow see an 18-24% chance of making the postseason... jesus those games in hand must really be weighty

There is no way these guys make the playoffs unfortunately.

I havent had a chance to vet this yet - but on Twitter I saw a posting that says all Penguins key players (Crosby/Malkin/Letang/Karlsson/Jake/Rust/Jarry/Pettersson) are out playing their contracts this season.

If so, that's a very damning indictment on Dubas and his roster construction. He's essentially gotten good player for the money out of all of his top players and has completely failed to give them a supporting cast capable of competing.

Toronto has 4 picks total in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds of the next three drafts.

Dallas has 4 as well, including having only 3 picks total in the 2024 draft.

Vegas well stocked.

Edmonton as well, but they only have $2 million in space. Would have to give up asking price + player for space + pick for someone else to retain... it's a lot.

Colorado has all their firsts, but no 3rd until 2025 and no 2nds until 2026. Also, again, only $2.3 mill in cap space so need to trade extra for someone to retain.

LA in a similar boat to Colorado, with the added problem of being at their roster limit.

Rangers could do it without needing double retention. Decent number of picks. Could be a fit.

Canes have the space and the picks and the prospects to make it happen, but they don't usually make that kind of trade.

I drink Busch. Congratulations, despite a few simple IRA’s endless hrs of high paying side gigs, and a regular job I doubt I’ll ever see retirement.

Buschhhhhhh, That was my go to beer, in fact that's mostly what I drank..Once and while I'll bud light. Back in the 80's it was bud dry. Yes i'm old.

Also an indictment on Sully. Since this team has been underperforming for years, he should take the biggest bite.

GASP... the veteran presence bullpoop for the bottom 6 isn't working again? I am shocked...

The Graves signing... sigh... feels like the Brassard move again. Great on paper and just sucked.

That's our power play unit, save Pettersson and Jarry. I doubt anyone thinks our power play is performing at or above expectations.

The Penguins are a sinking ship, but the teams in front of us for that 3rd Metro spot also have a lot of holes in them, and somebody has to get that spot, even if all the boats have sunk and it's just who can swim the fastest to shore.

I agreed that sacrificing the future for now, with 2 generational talents, was the right move, even if the bill was going to come due at some point.
- SuperHenderson13

Crosby is obviously a generational talent, but Max Talbot hasn't been on the team for 10+ years.

The only two untouchables for me are Crosby and Letang. Unless they ask to be traded they stay.

I get Crosby, but why Letang?

LeBrun saying the Penguins have "a very clear sense of what needs to be done ahead of Friday's deadline". Says they are exploring all options to bolster the club for the future.

Says there are 6+ legit suitors for Guentzel including Vegas and Vancouver.

I cant answer for this particular case, but in my experience over the years, I've been shocked at how many fans prioritize Letang over Malkin... and how many other fans think Letang is a bum. Honestly one of the weirdest things about this era.

The answer is quite simple: They have had a functioning power play all season.

For Smith, I think you just trade him for whatever you can and hope to recoup the pick you gave up for him.

If Guentzel doesn’t get 2 top prospects they want, then at least 1 prospect, 1st round pick, and a conditional pick if he resigns

I don't think Letang is a bum, and he DEFINITELY deserves to have his name (if not his number) in the rafters after he's done.

But the amount of people who just give him a pass when criticize him while having no issue blasting other players is baffling to me.

Edit: If I had to start a team with prime Malkin or Letang, I'd take Malkin all day. When he was on his game and dialed-in, dude was top-3 in the league.

I see Larkin is out for 2 weeks for Detroit.
Anyone know if they have any prospects worth dangling Jake for? They may be a little more desperate on the trade front after that injury news

Over the years I've found that Letang has gotten blasted plenty haha....he's very a mobile risk taking puck carrier...this results in giveaways...in fact if it wasn't for Ek, Letang would probably have more heat on him this season hahaha

Wings have easily a top 5 pool of prospects in the league. Simon Edvinsson, Axel Sandin Pellikka, Danielson, Kasper, Soderblom, Mazur, Cossa and another young goalie. Not gonna happen but getting Edvinsson (hes better then Graves already) and 1 other player from that list is a W in my books.
