Not sure Id go as far as a steal with Berggren being 24 in 3 months and not being a full time NHL player yet. In 2-3 years hes reached what is typically his prime peak... - pens4life-66
Same age as when Jake broke through. PPG in the A, has had success when given a chance in the N. I think he could replace Rackells output with a $4M cap savings and a 1st rounder which will likely be in the teens or low 20's. Maybe not a steal but a deal I'd take all day. |

It’s going to cost a lot of money to fire Sullivan, and this season is lost, so won’t happen until the summer, if at all, but y he dead money from him is a drop in the bucket to FSG and would be an EBITDA addback on their financials. - abasin
The teams “rebuild” will take at least a few years. Might as well keep Sullivan in and tank as hard as you can.
However, Hire a coach now for WBS who you can see taking over the reigns in a couple years and who works well with developing the young kids. After you draft a few studs in the next few years, then promote that coach to the NHL level to continue their development

Guentzel was fine as a replacement for Horny. No one could replace Phil on the left half wall though, it let the PKer's cheat the other side of the ice because there was no threat from Rust, Rakell, Smith, Letang, etc. - j.boyd919
I like Phil and I like Jake, but we have been missing that true net front guy who shields goalies and scares other teams. We have been missing that power forward type for quite some time. |

Not front presence doesn't matter if you're busy passing it around the perimeter waiting for lanes to open. Phil made those lanes open.

Horny and Phil were on the same very successful PP together. They were both a huge part of it. I don't think Horny ever scared anyone. He just had that battle in him and good quick hands in close. |

Pens should have picked up Kuznetsov and retained half his salary in a trade - drummer829

Almost certain it's after the draft lottery when we know precisely which pick it is. |

Starting to feel bad for Dubas
Nylander with a hatty for CBJ
Dubas isn’t this bad, if the pens start a rebuild he will be a good guy to have making trades |

Karlsson has played well though. 1 Player doesn't make a hockey team. - j.boyd919
So now Dubas created the whole team and it's his fault? Can't have it both ways. What about all the guys who were here who aren't performing well?
The supporting cast isn't living up to their end of the bargain. Happens. Too bad the rope is getting shorter for the core to compete.

Nylander not succeeding is more on Sullivan than Dubas. Guy destroys / never lets young offensive guys build confidence. |

Has Dubas mentioned anything about Jarry? I saw that article about the Flames owner nixing the Markstrom trade to the devils.
I feel like Jarry to the Devils would actually make sense for both teams.
I also think the Flyers make a ton of sense for Jarry as well. If Dubas is ready to jump into the rebuild, no harm in trading Jarry within the division now |

Meanwhile in Columbus… Alex Nylander scores his first career hat trick
Do the pens get anything if he scores 6 goals |

Excluding the Karlsson trade, which most people here including me say was a good trade, especially because of the low price it cost to dump Hextall's bad contracts, Dubas had about $22M in salary cap. He spent that $22M on:
Jarry - $5.375M
Ned - $1.5M (most people say this was a good deal)
Graves - $4.5M
Nieto - $.900K
Acciari - $2M
Eller - $2.45M (probably his best signing)
Smith - $5M
Th players that were already here, with obvious exceptions like Carter and Rakell, have outperformed their contracts this season. So they arent the issue. The issue is the supporting cast he brought in isnt good enough.

Another damning indictment. We were apparently desperate for scoring and youth and we didnt give him much of a look.

So the cup champion, who was a big part of the win, Smith wasn't a good move? It for sure was. Not Dubas fault the guy hasn't played well. My point is, it's not the Gms fault when a player doesn't play up to his own expectations. Especially vets that have a history of doing well.
You can't exclude Karlsson and blame Dubas. 1. as you said, he had to get rid of Hextall's bad contracts and it was accomplished while bringing in a great talent.
2. He brought in a supporting cast with some history of playing their roles. Not Dubas fault they haven't done so.
3. We can likely agree a coaching change is needed.
He's done more positive than negative for the penguins in 7 months. He also drafted what looks to be a good kid, no?

I'd only be concerned if it keeps up. He played 60+ games with the blackhawks and only scored 10 goals.

If people want to blame the PP this season then what players are on the PP to start with because I don't see reirdon with skates on?
I also see ruff fired in new jersey and that team is way better than the penguins. |

How is that team "way" better than the Pens this season? is it their -12 goal differential to the Pens +8? Is it their 2 more standings points than the Pens with 2 more games played? Is it their 17th ranked PK to the Pens 6th ranked PK?
Oh look at that their PP is 14th and the Pens is 29th. You flip those two around and the Devils are probably close to dead last in the league and the Pens are in a playoff spot.
Yes, the players have blame about the PP as well. Not a single person around here has ever said different that I can recall. Its really perplexing though, because those same players have been anywhere from good to great at 5 on 5. |

Is Bruce Boudreau available? Not a big fan of coaching changes but it's time to start thinking about it if we lose any other game in the next week. |
