The NHL is a tough league.

Them and Buffalo look talented on paper.

Turning the page and being a good team is not easy.

- Santo_44

Yeah, Buffalo is another example.

Rebuilding doesn't always mean success is coming. You need to build the right way, a little luck with your decisions and players development to go smoothly.

Sometimes creating a winning culture/environnement is the hardest thing after so many years of losing.

Habs are in year 2 of their rebuild after the SCF run, we need to be patient still. But I like the moves they are doing so far.

At this point, the Leafs are not winning the division and will likely either finish 3rd or in a wild card spot.

Individual stats are a lot of fun and he's scoring at historic levels. I want to see just how many goals this cat can score.

Playoff success? Yeah, wake me up when it's the Conference Finals.

70 would be nice to see.

But then he needs to score a close enough pace in the playoffs

To be fair to Sens fans (and god knows I hate them) Their team has been seriously disappointing the last two seasons.

There should be enough talent on this team for them to be much better than this.

I mean sure, their goaltending has always been awful between the likes of Murray/Talbot/Korpisalo but disappointing still.

- Scabeh

I still think they are a goalie away from being good.

You've won ONE series in what? 20 years? ... with your current lineup.
Come back to me when you reach the Stanley Cup finals.

Anyway, have a nice day.

- Garfield512

Have been watching a 100 point team since 2016 yeah, its entertainment and its been nice watching

Way better than finishing 17th-25th all those years before that.

Perhaps. Even average goaltending would do wonders for them probably.

Dorion really (frank)ed up over the years taking swings at injured/underperforming/past their prime guys.

Agreed on the above.

I'm A-OK with the Leafs going into the playoffs in 3rd or a WC spot, maybe that will make it feel like a bit less pressure for them and they can get on a roll vs going in in top spot or almost top spot.

Sometimes being the underdog isn't a bad thing!

For the Leafs? Considering how it went so many times when they were the favorites? I think being the underdog is the best thing that could happen to them.

Yeah the Monahan move was really good. They have to keep making good moves right now. They also dodged a bullet with PLD.

No Chychrun like deals

Devon Levi should be a fine goaltender in the end.

But the young man needs time.

I think the Habs are a year or two away from getting a more established player to complete whatever they need to start competing.

I like how Hughes managed to get young good assets that are already further ahead in their development like Dach and Newhook. I fully expect him to try and make another move like that, targetting guys like Kakko, Kent Johnson or Peyton Krebs.

It speeds up the rebuild without the cost being too high and you get players with a bigger track record than a draft pick that could never pan out.

Dach especially looked extremely good before that freak injury. Hope he can stay healthy moving forward.

You caught that huh?

But the point still stands. I think they would benefit from having that underdog mentality. Loads of pressure off their shoulders.

lol
I did catch that - your sneaky but not "Hab D man with BS cross checks to the face / neck with no call in the playoffs" sneaky.

And yes I agree it would be nice, I mean the pressure from Toronto media and fans will never fully allow it to be a situation where the Leafs feel they have nothing to lose because they are the underdogs but to not be the hands down favourites would likely really help them.

I just looked up the NHL Playoff Goal Record in a season...........now I see why you picked 20!

I would not have predicted Reggie Leach to hold that record!

Every draft pick a team trades away their fans get all antsy about

Well thats the thing, I think trading a good package of Savard double retained plus another asset could net a 1st. MTL should be all over that. Puts more ammo in for the draft when some good RFA's could be had.

Agreed. If there's a way to turn Savard into a first, they're doing it. 100%.

Would give them 5 first rounder in the next two drafts still and so many picks in the later rounds. We won't even be able to sign all of these prospects if we keep drafting to even with the 4 firsts they currently have, some of those will be traded for a young RFA imho.

Yes 6 year old Auston Matthews was not the dominate force he is now.

You are bragging about the time the Habs rode the coat tails of the god like play of Price to the finals that one time and then failed him miserably when he only played good to great in the finals and not god like?

Weird flex - maybe just go eat some more lasagna and stick to the Habs thread or another sport more suited to the current Montreal hockey club.....
