The last couple of games Matthews hasn't looked as motivated and Marner has been at times excellent and at times very, very risky. Nylander hasn't really taken the hint from the coaching staff. A lot of his "checking" efforts are optical at best but offer no threat. He could give a step or two an acceleration boost and take the puck away from guys - instead he parabolas towards the guy with a lazy stick swing and then peels back. I'm not sure what it's supposed to accomplish.

On the plus side, most of the defense has looked a little better (not on that goal against), Domi and Bertuzzi and Tavares have all looked much better and the 4th line has been reenergized of late.

Nothing you see isn't deserved. The Bruins got a bs powerplay because composite sticks break too easily, but the Leafs continue to not be able to kill a penalty at all. It's far from a personnel issue are far more a systemic issue. There is an assistant coach in Toronto who should not be getting PK coaching assignments ever again.

Otherwise the Leafs are slow to pucks, being outworked, outhit and giving up ice in their own zone way too easily.

Ya they havent looked great so far.

But we know it only takes 5.mins or so for them to play and get 1 goal lead.
