Cossa hasn't been very impressive this year and Levi already flamed out once. Both teams have rosters that look competitive with elite goaltending, and it would be great for both young goalies to share the crease with Markstrom for a couple of years.
How much faith do you think the Canes have in Andersen, who will be another year older next year. - Squeaky
Levi flamed out once...? 🤣🤣🤣
He was playing NHL games in his 22 year old rookie season.
Flamed out my ass.
Also, he's not the only young goaltender Buffalo has.
There's one that's been playing extremely well.
Highly doubtful they'd be in the Markstrom market. |

Oesterle was garbage last night. Give me Gilbert all day any day, even if he is rough around the edges. |

Or better yet Joel Hanley and get rid of both Gibby and Oesterle

Positive thing was that Kuz played a decent game last night. The defence was sheit.

I like Gilbert, he hadn’t played for a while and when he got in vs the Penguins, he laced the body out there. Flames don’t have a lot of players that do that. |

Canuck fans disappointed with Lindy. They thought they were getting a top 6 forward, defensive specialist, it just hasn’t worked out that way.
Is Hanifin going on the trip?
I’d say no. |

Where do you think he goes? I am hoping Florida decides to overpay.

Where ever he goes I bet he extends. Boston, Tampa, Florida would all have the players leaning on him hard to stick around. |

That's entirely the point. It's a whole lot easier for Levi to establish himself as an NHL goalie if he's sharing the crease with someone like Markstrom for 2+ years. Who do you think would help him more with his mental development, Ukka-Pekka or Markstrom?

Looks like the Flames have found their Tkachuk replacement. Martin Pospíšil, minus the talent obviously. But he can sure turtle as well as Matthew. Flames fans must love this guy. |

Sabres have Levi who has been doing well in the AHL since his demotion as their goalie of the future, whom they expected to take the reigns this year and DRW have Sebastian Cossa whom they expect to become their #1 as soon as next year.Carolina did not expect goaltending to be an issue as it was fine as recently as last year and have Anderssen and Kochetkov signed thru next season so they won't likely be looking. - wreckage
Apparently UPL has been pretty good for Buffalo too, goaltending hasn't been the Sabres issue from what I've read/heard.
I honestly don't think the market gets any better for Markstrom in the summer, will be about the same as it is now imo. |

If a 2025 2nd and a 26 1st is in play I would be good with that if the 1st is not heavily protected (Top 3 protection maybe but not top 10).

The Sabres have a team save% of 897, the Flames are at 898. The Sabres have Power and Dahlin, then not much of strength on the blueline whereas the Flames have/had Hanifin, Kyllington, Andersson, Tanev, and Zadorov. The Flames control the dot 50.5% of the time setting themselves up with possession more often than not. The Sabres are at 46.3%.
You keep on moving the goalposts on your narrative too. Originally it was that the Sabres would be a contender if they had a real goaltender. It was shown that they have competent goaltending with their G of the future already there. So you changed the narrative to they could use Markstrom simply for veteran leadership. Couldn't the Flames use Markstrom for that same reason with Wolf? And couldn't Buf just pick up a decent veteran for less than 6M in the offseason without coughing up valuable assets, that they can use to improve their defense and team faceoff% instead, for an area that isn't that big of a need?
What you would expect for Markstrom would be the equivalent of the Flames coughing up quality assets for some middle 6 players. The middle 6 of the Flames is fine as is. No need to use assets to maybe improve it, or marginally improve it. Use those assets to fix the areas of need instead. |

What are you talking about? The Sabres could be a contender with a real goaltender. They fell too far behind early because they couldn't get saves from anyone. Ukka-Pekka has been fine, but he's leagues behind Markstrom. Markstrom has been top 5 this year. Ukaa-Pekka's been maybe top 20. Save percentage isn't everything and faceoff percentage is the most meaningless stat you can bring up in any argument. The difference in 50 and 46 is 2-3 faceoffs a game.
Markstrom is right at the top in goals saved above expected per 60, GAA better than expected, Wins above replacement, and high danger save percentage. Ukka-Pekka is middle of the pack and not even in the top 30 for high danger. Markstom wins games for his team, Ukka-Pekka is trying not to lose them.
You're also not giving the Sabres' defence enough credit. They have some good young players like Johnson and Jokiharju who've been playing a lot better. I'd take their group over what the Flames have. Another year of seasoning, a Tage bounce back, and a Vezina calibre goalie and the Sabres are as good as anyone.
Wolf would absolutely benefit from keeping Wolf around, but the Flames aren't in any position to be competitive any time soon so it doesn't make a lot of sense. |
