I never said it was something that was easily done, nor did I ever say the league wanted to change it, perhaps you missed that when you ran to get your soapbox.
The fact that others have carried on the conversation about it being stupid and something the league should/could change should tell you something........ - Cush29
No, you just said it’s so stupid they haven’t done it and I pointed out some reasons why they haven’t. No soapboxes involved |

4 picks in the top 3 rounds over the next 3 years.
Moves may be limited for the leafs
What did Florida give up? A 3rd and a prospect?
Edit: looks like its 2 draft picks. - Fakepartofme
FLA, Bos and TBay with similarly bare cupboards.
Curious to see what Tarasenko cost. I'd think Henrique and Wennberg might be similar - guys I hope the Leafs are looking at. |

3rd and 4th ...AND they retained 50%? That's all he cost? |

Nothing in his play warrants giving up in the guy. Only move him if he brings significant trade value (not likely) or if they think he’s going to be a problem when he hits RFA status - Canada Cup
Him and the 1st to Ott for Chickrin - |

Hope they gave a lot up for him, never really thought of him as a needle mover the past few years - Santo_44
Nice secondary scoring add.
He's a 0.85ppg since 2020/21, a little slower in the foot speed but definitely could a move the needle type player
Looks like 2 draft picks |

3rd and 4th for Tarasenko with 50% retained
for a rental
both Henrique and Wennberg are UFA
See if Lars eller is cheaper, get him 1 more season.
3rd or a 4th for Eller and 1st for Chickrun
easy peasy

Tbay has two cups recently, fla a recent cup finals visit. Dont really care about boston. Either way, im not concerned with their cupboards.
Looks like a 3rd and 4th with salary retained?
A steal |

Only a steal if they resign him or win though. Otherwise the picks are better suited building the cupboards back up.

good get for the Panthers
everyone has to remember the "get" for a pending UFA (without trade & sign)
the value nowadays will be in the "meh" range unless the pending ufa is
a top line "star" player in the league....Leafs need to get a couple of these types
too.....bottom line its advantage buyers in the pending ufa market |

And what if those prospects don't help you win a cup? Or do anything? |

Still. A year ago Tarasenko (with Mikkola) went for a 1st, a 3rd, Blais and B-C prospect.
Now he goes for a 3rd & 4th with retention?! If I were a GM I'd tell Florida to pound sand. I'm fine keeping him if you're giving me (frank) all in return. |

I mean it's exactly what you said about the leafs making trades last year
Or when I brought up the pens did it for a 3rd rounder in TWO YEARS lol. So nope... you talk out of two sides of your mouth. TWO YEARS away and you thought a team should keep it due to cupboards being low on prospects and picks so you can't say "it means nothing" now. |

Random question. If the Leafs were to go after, say, Parayko, can they have St Louis retain on the remainder of this year only? My gut says no, but I'm not 100% sure.
Would be nice to grab someone like him with term, but I don't think we can make it work unless we ship out Brodie, and I'd like to keep him to play the left side where he is MUCH better. Cost would be too steep to have STL retain on the rest of his contract, but if it can be worked to retain this year alone it's possible, (even though I don't think that's how it works). |

Could be big steal for the panthers. But considering the panthers style of play, which seems pretty physical, taresenko doesnt seem to fit that mold. Unless he is more physical than i recall him to be? |

But why? This year is a complete bust for OTT and he walks at the end of the year. Isn't two draft picks, (even as low as they are), better than nothing? |

I dont believe so no. That would be a great option though. I pretty sure they have to retain on the whole contract. |
