I don't think the price is known yet.

My friend is an Oiler fan, and his attitude towards this era with Draisaitl and McDavid is - who cares about the future. Win a cup NOW while you have the best player in the world, and arguably another top-5 player in Draisaitl. He doesn't care what they have to give up. Trade a 1st to get rid of Campbell, trade a 1st to get Henrique . . . .don't touch the core - and that's about it.

I'm not surprised to hear that is his thought process and many Leaf fans kinda' feel the same about what Toronto has now. The biggest difference in my opinion is that Edmonton has been 'rebuilding' for much much longer but they were so poorly managed. I mean think of all those top draft picks they had and what they have accomplished with them (or rather how much they haven't).

I guess for some the counter argument is the Oilers have won a cup (cups) much more recently than Toronto.

Long term contracts are rarely traded during the season. Very rarely. It COULD happen but I see why they suggest an off season move.

This is not the same scenerio, there’s likely only a few teams they can make a trade with. STL is running out of time with their D.

He signed with a NTC, highly unlikely he negotiated that if he would go to a bunch of teams.

Another year off the deal also means a year older.

I understand where your thoughts are but this scenario could absolutely happen now. In fact if Parayko is Tre’s guy I say he makes it happen, if not he’s not coming here now the offseason.
