What is the opposition to the salary cap being in effect through the playoffs? How many cups won by teams $10-15M over the cap is enough to finally bring about change?!?
- Whipper

I don't think most Leaf fans should be pushing for that because it's a loophole the Leafs can actually use to their advantage. If I'm seeing it correctly on capfriendly, it looks like the Leafs have almost $14.5 million on LTIR at the moment from Muzzin, Murray and Klingberg.

It's also that those guys aren't likely to play in the playoffs - especially Muzzin and Klingberg. I suppose there's actually a chance Murray could be healthy, but given that he was on the ice once in February and hasn't been out since doesn't bode well for his recovery.

If Chicago pays for the double retention, I'd take him for $2.4m. He's probably better than some of the AHL plugs we've been inserting into the lineup.

I think he has been better, and worth it for half..but not really worth talking about, nobody retains that much for that long

Jones is playing a lot of minutes and he's doing a lot of stuff. That's what the Hawks need from their number one defenceman right now and he's providing it, especially on special team

This Guentzal-Lindholm-Boston roomer is pretty interesting.

I'm guessing trade/no-trade it's a sign Lindholm ain't re-signing in Vancounver.

Maybe Lindholm was brought in as a possible quazy replacement for Pettersson or at least make him think Lindholm was.
Pettie signed, maybe no spot for lindie anymore, bigger need is a winger?
We'll see.

Man oh man there isn’t people thinking those two would play are there? Klingberg is done for the year due to the hip surgery and Muzzin is bloody well retired. I know that you know this but if you need the links to show people this here they are for you.

Good point... the problem is when recovery times miraculously line up with the start of playoffs which clearly isn't the case for the Leafs right now

It's fun to fantasize though.

Muzzin takes a radical new experimental therapy and regains 100% of his peak form. And he does it in full Ducherov style with no caphit in the playoffs.

Murray has been secretly working out for months and is almost ready to go, full Ducherov style.

Leafs head into the postseason with a free upgrade on defense and in goal. They win the Cup while being millions over the cap. The league immediately has a poopfit because it's Toronto doing it and they change the LTIR rules on the spot.

The one from this year or the other time they did it with Stone?

it's so stupid the league hasn't closed up that loophole yet, they should IMO in some way. I don't understand the logic behind the salary cap not being applied during playoffs. Maybe they need to follow the way baseball works in some ways with extended rosters and give every team a bit more cap space to accommodate starting day 1 of the playoffs but not before or something.

So who we getting at the deadline?

I’m open to trading Minten. I don’t really see the hoopla with him.

Whatever we think of it it’s unlikely to change any time soon. GMs and owners have said they don’t see a problem with the current arrangement and they’d need to open the CBA to change it.

Ya, hasn't looked great. Also may have thought they could re-sign him and now know that he's not interested/or the money's not a fit. Or it could be Cap related - ie. they want/need a Guentzal type and need to create the cap space by moving a contract.

Fantasy thought ..

Guentzal to Van
Lindholm to Bos (they have no cap space ..need to move Ullmark somewhere)
Ullmark to NJ or LA?
Prospects/Young players to Pitt

one thing they , the league can do is what they do in the off season time with the cap. Allow teams to go over the cap by 10%. For injury purpose and to carry extra bodies
