I agree they will have the cap space where they could make it work, but its not so simple as Jake + Carter = what you can spend on Jake. Sure, if you want everything below the top line to suck even worse than it did this season you can but that is $9M available to fill TWO roster spots, not one.

When your primary goal is to keep Sidney Crosby happy in his waning years, it quite simply is that simple. They're going to ride the top heavy top two lines combined with rolling the dice on fringe bottom roster players for the rest of whatever run they think this core has left.

Who said it would be? His current contract is 6m. Carter's contract is 3m. They could offer Jake 9-9.5m per year.

Yes, you add the salary of the two players coming off the books to what Guentzel is currently making now and that's how you get a bigger number. Logic is hard too.
