When has anyone moved a Cowan?

Pretty rare that teams do.

The Echiel deal is the only time I can think that a real good prospect was moved.

FFS the "prospect" in the Hanifin deal is 26.

The prospect in the Tanev deal is a black hole offensively and probably has a 3rd pair ceiling.

Im sure lots of 28th overall draft picks have been traded

Anyone with eyes and a brain can see his value has surpassed his 28th pick value by quite a lot

Quick someone trade a 2nd for Kucherov!

I dont get ltir and cap space.

leafs have 5 players on ltir and $5 in cap space, but Vegas still somehow has 3.8mil?

- senstroll

Leafs have 3 on LTIR ...and 2 on IR (Gio and Timmy). IR counts against the cap.

Cowan wouldn’t be a 28 pick if they redrafted

Heard that he would be projected to go 6th if he was in the current draft. Radio, so not sure that was from a real scout, or some commentards ass, but it seems reasonable.

IMHO, Tanev would have been an even better fit on this team than Hanifin.

Unfortunately, Leafs just don't have - or are unwilling to move (Cowan, Minten) - the assets to acquire a big needle-mover this season.

Hopefully, in the off-season a player like Tanev signs here.

- mjones242

Leafs arent moving a cowen for Tanev, that was never gonna happen.
Tre cannot rebuild the D at the deadline, it will be during the off season

I never thought I would hear anyone say that about the Lightning (cap space).

But yeah, you're right. It would be nice to actually use it for something other than helping Edmonton.

- GalacticStone

You have to wonder if this might be a weird, recoup year for the Lightning. Use their limited space to get some picks, go into the playoffs, see what the Stamkos situation is and come back for another go?

I know it sucks to waste a Hart and near Norris year from Kuch and Hedman, but Vasi has been mediocre on return and the team is flawed. If they contend, it will be because they get poop done as underdogs.

PHI goaltending is terrible

1 more retention slot I wonder if they would retain for the Leafs for the price of Martina Jones

Leafs could make some noise if they decided to move Samsonov right now. Picks or a RD could be had. Woll is the goalie going forward after this year and Sammy will want $4M+ with term. It's a bit of a gamble, due to possible injuries, but the Leafs have Jones and Hildibeast behind Woll. Why not move a tradeable asset and get a return if we aren't projected to be competitive past the first round?

This is wild.

I wonder what the 'Vegas odds" were that Vegas would get a nice chunk of cap space to add at the TDL each year due to Mark Stone and then he would heal up in time to play in the playoffs?

Vegas is looking like their using the Dubas formula from last year. Uproot a quarter of your team at the trade deadline and bring in a partially new roster. Didn't work here, not sure if it works there. A lot of smoke and mirrors. Chemistry may be an issue moving forward.

Agree with all of this, 100%.

With Vasi not being himself yet, I think this year's run is pretty much done before it starts. As a GM, I wouldn't piss away my last remaining assets to add a marginal piece to a flawed roster.

Using that cap space to regain some picks might not be popular with the local fanbase, but with Hanifin off the board, it might be the best option for Tampa.

I'd still like to see the Leafs add somebody impactful. Fingers crossed.

The fact that he hasn't played a season without an injury since 2014 and he's a 31 year old hunchbacked spleen lacerated monster?

He will have a genetic toe condition next year when they trade for Crosby at the TDL
