Who are the absolute untouchables on the Leafs?
Aside from Mathews, Marner and Nylander, who pretty much are the team, is there anyone else (aside from apparently Cowan), that you would not move in any trade?
Would most be willing to trade, Riley or Knies if a home run #1 defender came available?
For this team to stop treading playoff water, we can't just keep trading futures. When your cap is mostly tied up in high talent players, you never have the cap space to retain even the few good fits (Schenn for example).

It seems to be the thing that separates GMs like Rutherford and McPhee from the rest of the league. They are never afraid to jettison a player if they think it will improve the team, and don't worry about the holes it makes. They just fill the holes in later, with another trade.

Helps having 9.5M Mark Stone off the books every year only for him to return for playoffs.

I would move Rielly or Knies for a player that can be there for more than one run and swing the needle. No problem. Like a Byram-Mittlestadt deal.

What that is? No (frank)ing clue.

Tough spot for Tree with the lack of things ...

Doesn't move 1st's for rentals.
D with term aren't getting moved (so far).
Doesn't have any 2nd's to be aggressive in the rental market.

Kind of leaves him dangling 3rds and 5ths for guys like Boosh AND/OR hoping some team becomes willing to part with a D with term for that 1st rounder and things.

No

Trade the only guy who gave us a discount?

Trade the only guy who sticks up for teammates?

He should be Captain Morgan

Toronto Maple Leafs Receive: Joel Edmundson (50% Retained), Nic Dowd (50% Retained) & Nick Jensen

Washington Capitals Receive: T.J. Brodie, Nick Robertson, Noah Gregor, Dmitry Ovchinnikov, 2024 third-round pick (NYI), 2024 fifth-round pick (VAN) & 2024 seventh-round pick (OTT)

I would entertain moving Knies if it meant getting Buchnevich 50% retained and Parayko with 500K-1M retained.

Parayko plus Buch for the next 2 seasons for 8.5-9M would be

Stop with the bullpoop trades.
Or at least start your brilliant trade proposals with, “Here’s my bullpoop trade proposal.”

i just dont think they will ever win with Rielly as the top Dog #1.
if you are good with that, thats fine. he has too many holes in his def game for me.

i know it would never happen, and he will be a Leaf until he retires.

Obviously Matthews Marner and Willie have NTC so they stay. The only other non trades me to me is Knies. I would absolutely trade Reilly if needed. Love him, he’s a great Leaf, but he’s not a #1 D……..he’s just not.

Ya the only untouchables I have is Matthews, Marner and nylander.

Anyone else can be traded to help make the team better. I don’t have any partiality to anyone if it helps this team get further.

Leafs could make some noise if they decided to move Samsonov right now. Picks or a RD could be had. Woll is the goalie going forward after this year and Sammy will want $4M+ with term. It's a bit of a gamble, due to possible injuries, but the Leafs have Jones and Hildibeast behind Woll. Why not move a tradeable asset and get a return if we aren't projected to be competitive past the first round?
- PrinceLH

There are 69 goalies who have played ten or more games in the NHL this year.

Samsonov is currently 67th out of 69 in save percentage.

Do you think we would get more than a couple of 1st round picks for him?

How can you blame Rielly? Not his fault he happens to be the Leafs #1. Up to the smart guys to go get one. Do you think they tell themselves we don’t need a better Dman than Rielly? I call bullpoop… again.

Remember when Leafs Nation hated Kessel because he didn't do enough to win a Stanley Cup, except being the Leafs' leading scorer every single year he played here - without ever having a centre?

It's the stupidity that unites us all.

1000% yes. Bye, Knies, you'll have a great career elsewhere, but this is the kind of trade that needs to happen.

Right now he's our best goalie and has been playing like it. Since January 1, he's 12th in the league in goals saved above expected (notably since January 1, he's been better than Demko, Saros or Shesterkin).

I wouldn't trade him. You need to ride a hot goalie and I'd rather go into the playoffs with Samsonov and Woll and hope one of them catches fire.

Yeah, but that was before we upgraded him to the Sammy 2.0 software. I think most teams looking for a goalie can see that he's clearly turned his season around, and is MUCH better than 67/69 at the moment.
