For retaining Parayko that wouldn't make sense for a team.

Assuming the team is not a contender they would be paying Knies through the end of his RFA and start of his UFA years plus 2Mish from Parayko. just would not line up

You probably don't notice that missing $1m until like the 6th year . . .I'm not even sure which of their young prospects really would project to be stars - I like Snuggerud and Dvorsky - but I think Logan Cooley was the stick that stirred the drink in Minnesota that gave Snuggerud more success. I think Dvorsky has a better chance - but my point really is that those guys are 4 years away - at least - from their first RFA years. That $1m may not be a big a deal.

Teams are only allowed to retain on 3 contracts at a time, yeah? Does St. Louis have any currently?

Say they retain slightly on Parayko. Brodie goes there as part of the deal for CAP reasons. St. Louis can even turn around, retain half of his deal, and trade him elsewhere. Since this is the last season of Brodie's contract. That way they could even get something for him.

That would have them at Brodie for the rest of this season, Buchnevich for this and next (if/when they trade him), and Parayko for 6. It could technically work, if they don't have any retentions right now.
