The Pens are currently spending about $10.5M on the bottom 6 including Carter. If you take an extra $3M from Carter and give it to Jake, you are basically counting on a bottom 6 of entirely sub $1M players. *not taking into account any salary cap increase.
How are the Pens going to have a better bottom 6 that way? We need a real 3rd line, even if that means we have a less high end top line. The makeup of the players matters, but we don't even have a Hagelin for the bottom 6 right now. Let alone a Kessel or Bonino. - MacPatty

For those wanting Hoglander, just know that’s basically like asking to get another Tyler Kennedy
Would you do Jake Guentzel for 2010 Tyler Kennedy? He the missing piece? - TheGame316
Hoglander -> hog -> pig -> manbearpig-> Tyler Kennedy
Checks out. |

Ive heard a few people drop that comparison and it doesnt really make sense at all. Kennedy had terrible hands and passing, he was a quick skater with an ok wrist shot who hustled hard. Hoglander actually has some talent.
I'm not some huge Hoglander fan and I don't think he is going to take Jake's spot, but he would be someone with an offensive pulse we could plug on the 3rd line. It is possible he turns into a good top 6 option.
He is only 23 and for the record, he has played only 11 minutes per game on average this year and has 19 even strength goals. That would be second on our team to Crosby. You will recall that Jake didnt break through to the NHL until he was that age. I'd argue he is exactly the type of player we need to take a chance on. Especially given he would be coming with a 1st rounder +. |

Barely. There's no guarantee that your current core continues to age gracefully. Everyone falls off at some point. |

While true, this is the gamble the current management has decided to take. Evidenced by the signings of Malkin and Letang.

He has a value as if thats what he is, its a perfect 3rd line big defensive player. The issue is that he is still looked at as a 2OA. Gotta remove that - nyrangers2
I agree with that. My point is he shouldn’t be off limits in a Guentzel trade and not even sure I’d want him back as a Pens fan. |

KK will be a solid 2 way 3rd line player who can fill in top 6. Will be a 20ish a yr goal scorer who drives possession. |

Agreed. He is cost controlled and 22. Probably the exact player the rangers would want in their bottom 6 if he was available to them today. Also the rangers sending JT Miller and Buch away at young ages gives me PTSD

For some reason he was my wife's favorite player. I think it was because of that silly ass video they would play after he scored a goal. |

They had enough before if even a league minimum contract was going back PIT's way. There's something else cooking. |

In order to be able to recalled or waived after the trade deadline players have to be on an AHL roster by 3pm tomorrow. Mostly paper moves for eligibility reasons. |

Why does anyone need to clear cap for Jake? Can't we eat almost every dime of his salary if he nets us more in return?
OH, EK & BURNS TOGETHER AGAIN! |
