I dunno, we dont have Malgin to dangle in that deal.

In all seriousness though, Kyle is in big trouble in Pitt. What the hell can you even do there? Yikes.

and it looks great on Dubas. Dubas really owns the contract limitations that exist in Toronto - that's on him - although many want to blame Shanahan. I think its great that Dubas now has to find a way to "manage" a dying roster - with a bunch of guys he can't trade for various reasons. Its going to get really ugly there - and I will be watching with interest to see how well Harry Potter waves his wand to fix that.

Dammit I liked your post much more before you corrected the spelling from Pilon to Pylon.

Because adding some PILONS sounds like a great playoff strategy! lol

Pilon is the French word for "pestle" — an instrument used for crushing or pounding. In many pilon fractures, the bone may be crushed or split into several pieces due to the high-energy impact that caused the injury. In most cases, surgery is needed to restore the damaged bone to its normal position.

Rich Pilon was a mean summabich back in the 90's. He was basically Edmundson before Edmunson was Edmundson.

So we had the requisite griping about the trade for Edmundson. I don't like him, but the cost of a 3rd and a 5th to include retention is probably not unexpected. Could that have purchased a better player? Maybe, but probably not to be honest. Edmundson is probably very similar in value to Schenn - who cost a 3rd round pick with no retention.

But it got me thinking about something I'd seen that says that 3rd round picks have more value than we think, and I took all of the picks from 2000 - 2018 and used Hockey-Reference's Point Share evaluation system to determine whether a player was in an "elite" category or not.

Basically I used this criteria:
- A goalie had to play a minimum of 60 games to be considered an NHL player
- A skater had to play a minimum of 100 games.
- If a goalie had a Point Share/game of .19 or greater, I considered them an elite calibre player,
- If a Skater has a PS/Game of greater than .1, I considered them an elite calibre player.

Examples of some questionable "elite" attributions using this criteria: Guentzel, Semin, Ellis and Tarasenko - and guys who sat on the other side of the cusp and were considered merely NHL players - Subban, Klingberg, Dobson, Byfuglien, Rick Nash, Hintz, Pavelski . . . so there's some debate in terms of the quality. I was trying to make it simple on myself so I just used a boolean approach instead of a rating scale. On the goalie side, it's mostly good - Lehner and Varlamov crawl into the tail of the "elite" category, but to leave them out I'd need to omit Price, Demko and Rask and I would disagree with that omission more.

1 - 5: 24.2% chance of being elite, and 97.9% chance of being players.
6 - 10: 6.3% chance of being elite, and 85.3% chance of being players.
11 - 15: 5.3% chance of being elite, and 74.7% chance of being players.
16 - 20: 4.2% chance of being elite, and 75.8% chance of being players.
21 - 25: 3.2% chance of being elite, and 73.7% chance of being players.
26 - 30: 2.1% chance of being elite, and 58.9% chance of being players.
31 - 35: 1.1% chance of being elite, and 34.7% chance of being players.

Interestingly enough, using 19 years of data, the chances with pick 31 are not that dissimilar from the chances with pick 100 of garnering at least an NHL player or an elite level player. For context, everything is grouped in 5 picks and 19 years, so each category has 95 picks that it's measuring - until after pick 210, when the numbers are lower (50, 30, 25 . . .) noting that they used to draft until Round 9 until 2005, when it was changed to 7 rounds - and Vegas joined in 2017 which also would have added more picks.

I think any GM in Pittsburgh would be facing the same situation and there is no way to fix it except bottoming out.

Think at this point the only move left can see Tre doung is nringing in a 3C. Move JT to wing with Domi at C line 2. JT is the net front presence. Bert is the same on line 3 with new center and McMann.

After that its try keeping everyone healthy and do what we can.

Not expecting much more than that. Gonna be just how it is and if this team can find some heart and overcome Keefe
