Just peaked at the numbers from last night. Numbers show Lilly was good w/out Benoit and Benoit was bad with everyone. Brodie and McCabe were good.
Subject to a trade I think Keefe goes with ...
Rielly-Boosh
Brodie-McCabe
Edmun-Lilly - The Law
I could see them getting Colin Miller today |

Not sure we need that many puck movers with our forwards. If they can kill a play and just chip it out (something this team can never seem to do), and keep it simple, that's often all you need when things tighten up. Forces the forwards to play a more responsible game too.
In the regular season, I'd agree. With Savard, we'd have quite the collection of Pylons on the back end.
In the playoffs, I'd hate to face our defence. Haven't been able to say that in the last 20 odd years.
Edmundson, Benoit, McCabe, Savard.... all have a nasty streak and are hard to move.
That said, I'd really prefer something better with more term and less years, but who? - oldstyle

Leafs vs Habs tomorrow, would be funny to see Savard in a Leafs jersey at the Bell Centre for his game a Leafs |

I think he moves it in the summer. Tre’s not going to face any real consequences if Leafs go down hard in this year’s playoffs. With $ coming off the books and cap going up he has more of a chance to make changes in the summer and the 1st could be more useful then. - Canada Cup
I think he trades Lilly at the draft for a 1st if he doesn't today.
Don't think he commits to him. |

Hmm maybe. He was definitely a Dubas guy. Not sure Tree would see him in the top 8/9 ....we have a tonne of 'depth' types now. Just imagining how they keep the roster at 23. |

Kind of over Savard tbh.
After seeing the prices for these players Savard likely stays...or Habs fans are upset about the return. |

Well I think Lilly may get traded so.
Toffoli and Miller would be nice.
Trade Lillybust for a 1st.
And of course if LA trades for a goalie I would happily trade for Roy to help them out |

can the Leafs try and snag Toffoli with double retention, his cap hit can be under 1.1M cap hit - dmnted
I think the question is: What do we want that third line to be? If we're looking for tertiary scoring, then a guy like Toffoli might help - but he would be playing fewer minutes than he does now and not getting much PP time.
Would we be better with more sandpaper on those wings?
Would we be better focusing on trying to get a real top-4 D?
I feel that we may have enough guys like Toffoli and he probably doesn't move our needle enough - we need something we don't have. Size. Muscle. Grit. Board battle guys. Someone who could move up if needed, but ideally plays a solid 3rd line. I don't know who that is or why they would be available . . . Crouse? But I feel that would do more for us than Toffoli.

If you ask me, they are not trading him, they like the fact he is mentoring the young guys on how to play D, block shots, clear the front of the net. He is the father figure on D for MTL.
They have a very young group with many more young D's arriving in the coming weeks (Hutson, Reinbacher and Engstrom) all moving to the NHL/AHL level in the next few weeks |

My favourite thing in those games is when you see the recently traded guy just go up to someone and pop them - like, "I've always wanted to f'n do that, you bastard!"

They missed out on Trenin...big time.
Makes you wonder if Tre has some bullets in the chamber for some better players.
The fit was perfect and the price was not bad at all. |

I think you're right. The "Ron Hainsey" role is underrated. The Habs have a LOT of young D who have a lot to learn.

Tampa outplayed Toronto for stretches of that series that the Leafs ended up winning. It took a mix of players stepping up their game (Rielly), some lucky bounces, and a few calls go their way. But it was mostly the entire Leafs roster manning up and having a distinctively non-Leafy outcome.
If the Leafs can replicate that effort against Boston, they can slay that dragon. Tampa plays a "heavy" game when they want to, and that didn't stop the Leafs.
Having said that, I'd feel better if they could have taken a game from the season series. - GalacticStone
The one thing that stuck out to me most during that Tampa series was how different the Leafs looked. They looked motivated, determined, like they had something to prove. And they did.
I think the reality of it is everyone associated with the Leafs, from the casual fan to Shanny and even above him, knows that the only thing that matters is the playoffs. That is how this team will be measured for success/failure. No wonder they look disinterested too often during the season. (Yes, that is still a problem).
This team is going to be night and day come game 1 again, book it.

that just sounds like a bunch of running around chasing the play in your own end.
a defense like that will def kill a lot of offense..again..the leafs struggle to score when the games get tight and series prolong.
but what do I know...nothing has worked so far

Speaking of that! Chicago has NOBODY for Bedard. Not even the vet mentor role just nobody to play with. Taylor Hall isn't enough.
They need to make some splashes either in free agency or trade. To get some skill maybe Kuznetsov but maybe they don't want the mess.
Also its funny that minny has Parise and super buyout penalties of 15M again next year. |
