Vegas thought outside the box. If the core was still in their mid 20's I would easily give a B. Just not sure how they compete with the canes, florida, or vegas for 7 games now. They have some more dpeth, but needed a big time RW

Ahhh that's harsh. Solid B from me.

I agree...B from me, as well. Rangers needed an RW, 3C, and depth D. He got all that without flinging away 1st round picks and top prospects.

Depth trades often work out over the sexy name deals that can mess with chemistry.

Agreed. We didn’t need a star. Roslovic might be a very sneaky addition. The speed of him and Kreider together could cause a lot of problems for teams. Kakko can stay on the 3rd line and get better matchups, win win I think. Kept our prospects and 1st round pick. I don’t like Drury, but think he did fine this deadline.

How many teams have gone crazy at the deadline and got bounced in the 1st round? NYR last year and FLA year before come to mind immediately. Big names guarantee you nothing in the postseason. Chemistry trumps all IMO.

Only on paper. I am sure teams thought this of the Rangers this time last year. Look where that ended.

It’s a good alternative plan B if anything

I think Roslovic goes to the 1st line.

Kreider Zib Roslovic
Panarin Trocheck Laf
Cuylle Wennberg Kakko
Vesey Brodzinski Goodrow

This is the team boys. Let’s go

- nyrangers9479

If their top-tier talent doesn’t play like top-tier talent, this team is going nowhere. They needed depth and complementary pieces. That’s what Chris Drury brought in. Is it the guys who I necessarily might have wanted no. But at least it makes them tougher to play against, Roslovic bring some speed, and Wennberg is a good ad for the third line. But it’s going to be up to the big boys to play like big boys or this team is not going anywhere in the postseason

I love it... their ownership is all in every year. Must be awesome to play for them knowing that.

Tbh I had kind of forgotten about Roslavic going into today and throughout the day. His name wasn't really out there the past few days

Can’t believe JD made a deal with Drury.
- OLDSCHOOL#6

JD wasn’t a good President for Rangers but even he knows this is a business. You don’t burn your bridges like the moron Gorton did

No, you realized the likelihood of trading with CBJ was very slim so you ignored their players like the rest of us

Highly doubt that was the issue, they have other 1st round picks they could use.
- aecliptic

Well, then I’d love to know why he couldn’t pull it off.

Exactly but I think that if Zib doesn’t come out of his fog the Rangers aren’t going anywhere.

Exactly. This is sink or swim for the vets (Zib Kreider Post-season Panarin etc). They got some scoring depth pieces to help, but ultimately it’s “their team” and will be up to them what they do come postseason.

Roslovic may not be the droid that we were looking for, but our roster IS slightly stronger than it was on Monday.

Positives: we didn't mortgage our future drafts as we kept all of our 1st round picks
we didn't ruin next years cap by taking on any expensive/bad contracts

All in all, I'd give Drury a straight "B" as a grade!

Anyone see that SJ retained 17% of Hertl's contract for the next 6 years? That's weird stuff. Playing the long game I guess. I wonder if they can flip his cap hit in like 3-4 years if they are competitive by then, not sure how that works.

It gives them depth at center too, in case of injury Jack could slide in there

In hindsight, Roslovic/Guentzel is better than roslivic/kakko. Couldve offered a 1st, kakko and othmann. That may have made NY favorites.

Both deals provide nice depth, but there’s no reason why Vatrano could not have been brought in as well, unless Drury wouldn’t, couldn’t move the 1st round pick.
