So is Ty the best prospect of all that were moved?
Sounds like the Car guys are fringe nhlers at best?
Curious what van was offering. Wonder if dubas went for door #2 and chose poorly. - sammy87
Ty had the problem with his defense though. He would be caught out of position a lot. He played well especially on the PP, but everyone would feed him the puck and he didn't have to do much more than shoot. With a lot of our good talent not there Nylander, Puljujarvi, Puustinen, and White not there he doesn't have as much space to shoot it on net. Or have many players who get rebounds. I don't think Ty was ever going to get a true shot at being called up much like Nylander. I feel a bunch of these Carolina players could be called up soon once spots open up for them (which may come today pending some trades). |

If he doesn't extend with Carolina and goes to the open market come summertime it's probably not as bad as it looks for Pitt. |

So far, I am pretty annoyed at the majority of Carolina fans expressing how good the prospects were and that we ‘got a haul’. Dawg, tf trade did you see? Yall kept YOUR TOP 5 prospects and didn’t even fully commit to giving a 1st rd pick. |

TIOPS (which i didnt know even existed) says a big plus in the Penguins eyes was getting Bunting. They put a premium on getting him over other offers.
It also said the Penguins see Koivunen as a high ceiling prospect who has been underrated in Carolina's system.
All I will say... is they better be right. If Bunting crashes and burns and becomes dead weight and if none of these prospects work out, it wont be as bad as the Jagr trade given where the Penguins are in this generation's lifecycle, but it will be bad in the sense it was a 100% unforced error. |

If Ponomarev can become a decent 2 way 3C, I'll love the deal a whole lot more. How long have we been looking for that? If he can be our 3C, I kind of want to keep Eller now.
If these other two kids can't skate......woof.....I don't like that.
I like Bunting.....agreeing with Grinder feels weird.
Rooting for Carolina is WAAAAAAY easier than rooting for the Rags. The longer that deal was rumored the more gross it felt.

Bunting is kind of a Kunitz/Horny mix...who knows...he could do well with Sid...he could help the power play if he stays in the dirty area doorstep
EDIT: wondering if I should pick him up in fantasy and see how it goes....he will probably start on top line. |

Every time I saw Ty Smith play, it felt like I was watching Derek Pouliot. Sully was never going to give him any rope. |

100% this. I live in northern NJ, just as many Rags fans here as Devils. I don’t think I could have stomached seeing Jake in that jersey let alone hearing about him non stop. |

Definitely rooting for Carolina to make the final. I hate all other teams in the east with a chance. |

100%....also my 9 year older brother was a diehard Whalers fan...so somewhat of a connection haha. Oilers/Canes final, I think that's what I'd like to see.

Not any easy deadline because of the lack of space around the league...I think 1 more for sure, maybe 2.

Smith has got to go. Don't care the return as long as we aren't taking back a dead salary past this year in return.
Trading Ned makes sense, but I'd rather trade Jarry and resign Ned if that were possible.
Flip Bunting to someone for something?
Most of what I want to see done likely doesn't happen until the off-season. |

So Bunting is already the Pens 5th leading goal scorer and has 5th most points on the team haha...all while not getting top line mins with the Canes. |

Oh man, its f'n awesome. I look forward to it every year. Its not what it used to be though. A lot of teams get sh!t done in advance of it these days I find.

I thought the Pens were going to at least get a return similar to what the Flyers got with Giroux...who did not re-sign with Florida.
1st rounder (top 10 conditions)
One of the team's top prospect
3rd rounder
I guess Doobie wanted more scratch tickets instead of the payout |

The Canadiens got a better deal for fricking Sean Monahan.

Bunting has had 2 good seasons in his career, both were playing on a line with Matthews and Marner. He is no Kunitz, but you are right that he could actually improve our PP without Jake. I like that he is scrappy around the net, we were missing that. Carolina overpaid him and we took him as the main piece in a trade for our best winger... That's why I'm not thrilled. |

I didn't straight up say he is Kunitz haha. However, Kunitz always played with Sid, Geno or Getzlaf in his prime... |

Yeah, getting rid of smith should be a priority. Don't care if anything else happens.

This is (maybe) going to be my last gripe about this trade but here is what is burning me more than anything right now....
Waddell is getting a PPG regular season and playoff performer at the deadline for a salary dump, a 2nd rounder and 3 parts bin prospects....
AND HE HAS THE NERVE TO CONDITION A 5TH ROUND PICK ON CAROLINA WINNING THE CUP!~!~!~!!!!!!
If that isnt the ultimate F*CK YOU to Dubas, I don't know what is. The second that was proposed he should have walked away from the deal. That is the most insulting condition on a trade I have ever seen.
I am hoping we get the Flyers 2nd rounder and not the Carolina 1st, hope they lose in the first round. |
