Yup. Lafferty has a whole 1 extra goal and makes $350K more and has been playing for a far better team. - Dozzer
Put this into perspective as well - Dewar plays 11 minutes/game, and Lafferty plays 12 - but Dewar averages 2 minutes/game on PK and Lafferty averages 22 seconds. It's not much, but Lafferty does average 30 seconds of PP time/game. Dewar averages 7 seconds!
At the end of the day Lafferty is at the tail end of his physical prime at 29, and Dewar is just entering his at 24.
I, again, don't see a problem with the move. The guy offers something we don't have in house already in that he's a very effective penalty killer.

And is bigger, and led the league in short handed goals last year. So you agree then they are similar and a 4th was an overpay? - Archaic
Oh you’ve got physical play as a big necessity I see.
The leafs don’t need hits and goals they need smart defensive play at a cheap rate |

Leafs were definitely not bullied last night. Maroon is a tool. Loved it when he was on the ice in the playoffs last year. Reaves will tune him if he really wants to go - jribout
Maroon can’t fight. Cheap shots…sure. Run a goalie…sure. Waste of Reaves losing some knuckle calluses. |

Fine I know you love to be the one to throw out these types of “zingers” just to be contrary but I’ll explain more as that’s not what I said.
Craig Button was a joke of a GM in Calgary who put Mary St Louis on waivers with the flames, traded Giggy away for a 2nd round pick to protect Freddy Brathwaite in the expansion draft and trades Marc Savard away for a guy who never played a single NHL game.
He has such a great hockey mind he was never hired many an NHL team to do anything other than be a scout for (and this explains a lot) the Leafs in 2004. He lasted one year as an NHL scout.
Never mind his super hot takes now including today.
He’s a tool bag.
Simmonds and Johnson’s takes < than Biz and Bieska to me from the perspective of who has better insight into a player. - Cush29
The list of players drafted during his tenure in Dallas include Derian Hatcher, Jere Lehtinen, Jamie Langenbrunner, Marty Turco, Jarome Iginla and Brenden Morrow.

I actually think Johnson has very reasonable and good takes, I hate Button, he is just a pure hater.
Simmonds has been on the leafs recently, im not sure I would just dismiss his opinion. - Archaic
Fair game play / play by play I like MJ and his takes but on player trades / movements I think he’s out of his depth. He was simply parroting Button when I looked at TSN so it was doubly painful. Lol
Wayne Train again insight into the Leafs current players sure but about guys they are bringing in etc not so sure he’s that connected but maybe.
I just really prefer Bieska and Biz. Bieska has come so far from when he first hit the boob tube and couldn’t stop wagging his head like a bobble head. Lol |

Agreed! He only cost a 4th rounder and only makes $800K. Defensively sound and already a NHL regular. He’s a bargain. |

If I am going to be objective about it - Biz is a gigantic Leaf homer and would love anything they do, but Bieksa is a huge Leaf basher, so him liking it speaks more to me. Simmonds . . . come on, man. We like the Wayne Train, but you don't equate him with being all that brght. Mike Johnson is pretty smart and doesn't like it. Boudreau is likeable but he may be dumber than Don Cherry and Craig Button has never had a good thing to say about Toronto, so he isn't someone you give a crap about. I recall when the Leafs got Samsonov and lost Campbell he suddenly gave Edmonton the third best goaltending in Canada - despite having spent the last year calling Campbell a backup goalie.
In terms of the opinions I value out of all of these guys - it's 1-1 Johnson/Bieksa.

I disagree man.
McCabe - initiated.
Bert & Domi - not bullied
Rest of team - looked timid.
Stats - can’t play a rough tight limited space game. They are not effective.

Whats kind of interesting is looking at that d corp going into next year. It is set up for Tre to really do a bigtime overhaul on it. Lilly and Benoit RFA, Gio, Brodie, Edmundson, and Boosh ufa.
Muzz, Klingberg, and Murray gone too so lose their ltir.
That back end could be a real spot of work for Tre |

Yeah this basically.
We’d all have loved the Parayko deal, that’s out of our control.
But mid round picks for guys that can potentially help fill a weakness ? Worth a shot.
RFA and only 24.
Really like this deal, no risk. |
