Bunting has actually had some good looks and put himself in good position... he just cant finish. In other words, he's a Penguin already.

- SuperHenderson13

Hahaha exactly

Pens had a few more shots and scoring chances but way more high danger chances at 5 on 5.... However, the Oilers won 4-0 because they have finishing talent haha.

I can't tell if these guys are trying hard and are just this slow or are they just playing at half speed.

Brian Rust being the exception. I wish we had nineteen of him.

I dont understand what the hell Dubas’ infatuation with Bunting was. What “energy” is he providing? No more than a kid from WBS who wants to be there.

At this point might as well field the WBS roster the rest of the season. The veterans are cooked. Sid, Geno, Letang are tired and broken.

He ain't comin' back lol
- j.boyd919

Exactly - so what can Dubas do? He got somebody who can contribute in a top 6 role for a few years, lots of prospects and will have good amount of cap space next season. Maybe we draft Iginla or some other decent prospect around top 10 and cross fingers.

No team was gonna trade a top 1-3 prospect to get Guentzel on a rental, so we gotta keep that in mind. Keeping Guentz made no sense...

Bunting was a good player for us when he plays with good players.. The issue was that once the refs got wise to his play he was less effective..Glad we didn't resign him but he is not the worst player.

I think its 3 things:

1) This team has a very salty taste in its mouth from Jake being traded. I think most guys knew it was going to happen, but seeing it happen when this team technically wasnt out of a playoff spot I'm sure broke the spirit of some guys.

2) They are realizing this team is closer to a top 3 lottery team than a playoff team

3) As many of us were worried about, the oldest team in the league was bound to slow down as the season went on.

I feel bad for Bunting. He's coming from a playoff team to a team that's obviously checked out. AND, he's the face of the Jake Guentzal trade. Not easy.

I honestly dont think the Penguins fire Sullivan, even after the season ends. I think the likeliest path for him to leave is if a team like Boston collapses again and all of a sudden, Jim Montgomery is fired. I could see Sullivan go coach in Boston. It'd be weird for him to coach his son in law though.

From a tank perspective this is all well and good but as an organization that at least wants to pretend at being competitive during Crosby’s last years getting 5-0’d/5-1’d every game needs to be viewed as totally unacceptable and the staff needs to be held accountable. This level of implosion increases any likelihood that Sid eventually asks out.

Madden was in the locker room after the Caps game. He said the team was pissed about Jake. Sid was visibly angry. He said it was the first time he felt Sid might not finish his career here.....fwiw.

Hey, that was a beautiful pass from the infallible Kris Letang. Hit McDavid coming down the slot in stride.

I think the bad part about the trade is that this team is so use to being together and getting their way. Now when business moves need to be made they have issues with it. I wonder if them playing like this is a protest

This is a very good analysis; I would like to add this team has been abandoning Sullivan for quite some time. With the Guentzel trade the guys who didn't quit on Sullivan are now turning on Dubas.

If Crosby leaves, I want two firsts, a roster player and they have to take Sullivan. Everything is negotiable except Sullivan.

Serious question, for the people that wanted to ride out Sid, Malkin and Letang.
I said it before but would you still be willing to watch this for 2-4 more years? Having more then likely watched there last playoff game ever 2 years ago?

Yeah. I don’t want to see them in a different jersey. They’re penguins.

What am I missing here guys?...statistically the Pens were the better team today at 5 on 5. I didnt see any giving up. As usual finishing was the problem at ES and execution and finishing the problem on PP. Some airhead blunders stuck out, for sure...but they stick out even more so when losing a lot. I saw Oilers make blunders too... Doesn't matter for them though because they won.

I don't think you can really judge if they've given up or not when they play the Oilers given that they haven't managed to keep any games against them close for the past few years. They are just outclassed in these games. Let's see if they stink it up against OTT and SJ.

Well. Stats lie a lot. Can always trust the eye test though. Or in my case today. The ear test.
