I don't know. He's four and a half years into his tenure as the Wings GM, he hasn't really had the luxury of drafting high in the first round, like Oilers high I'm talking. No top three picks, Raymond was his highest at #4, two #6's and an 8th and 9th. Looks as though he's starting to turn the corner but they let their prospects soak for a long time, so who knows. - Pacificgem
Yzerman is a horrendous GM and I’ve been telling you this for years. It’s rather ironic that they would have made the playoffs without the Hronek trade. You know who else didn’t have the luxury of a pick as high as 4? Benning. The guy that can’t speak > than your hero |

Might come down to what he can do with making the right trades and free agent signings. Looks like the same as what he had done in TB. Brisebois made the right moves after Stevie left to get the club over the top. |

I would say “horrendous” is a complete overstatement, but that’s your M.O., you overstate things for dramatic effect. His drafting was good in TB, but that’s more a product of the scouting department, rather than Yzerman himself, they selected some great players either late in the first round or beyond the first round like Point, Vasilevskiy, Kucherov, Cirelli, Colton, Gudas, Palat, Erne, etc.
More impressive than that was his ability to quickly identify a mistake, like Drouin or Connolly, and flip them for picks or assets. They’ve made some nice steps this year but if he gets stuck in neutral, like Benning did, then we can agree, until a few more years pass, it’s an unknown, at least for me. |

Like most successful teams, or just good teams, it’s usually a product of a few GM’s. The ones who lost a lot but picked up some good players from high in the draft, like Benning, and the guys who take over from them if the previous guy (Benning) couldn’t take advantage of those high picks.
Benning's best move, by far, was trading a bag of pucks to Tampa for JT Miller. Initially he was a selfish twat, but when Tocchet came around he was forced to grow-up and become a man. He's been a great player the past couple seasons, the three Americans far and away are the teams best players. Miller, Demko & Hughes. |

A negative goal differential per 60 5v5 is not good. It gets worse in expected goal differential per 60. |

Last 5 games outscored 27-8.
Horrible & a bad time for a slump.
Need a starter idk if Husso’s the answer.
Doesn’t help Larkin is injured. |

Frustration at Red Wings practice. Ben Chiarot and Lucas Raymond got into at practice and had to be broken up.

Unraveling or are they trying for a last minute STL blues maneuver? |

Confident DeSmith can step up to the task but Myers is back playing so it should cancel out.

I don't think DeSmith will steal you any games, so I think it comes down to how they play in front of him. Play well and have a chance at winning. Play poorly and they will lose.

This is a perfect opportunity for the team and coaching staff to focus on, and institute, defensive systems play. Playoff ready!! |

He’s taking his time, not making moves unless it’s in the scope of the rebuild. They aren’t quite there yet, he knows it. This will be a big off-season though, I think they might turn the corner next year. |

Looks like he’s built a pretty promising core to me, is just letting them develop another year. We will see! |

Tocchet says #Canucks have been doing a specific stick on puck drill and since they’ve started doing it they haven’t been taking as many stick penalties. Jokes, “We might have to start doing that every day”
Canucks have taken just 1 penalty in each of the last 4 games (4/4 on PK) |
