I love spite. According to Elliotte Friedman on his 32 Thoughts podcast, the Flyers waived Ryan Johansen in part because of his history with Torts and also because his agent represents Cutter Gauthier:

THEY ARE PETTY AND PATHETIC

- THE BLACK HAND

I always lean in support of my team but Johansen was waived the second the trigger was pulled on this deal, which pretty much disrespects the player himself.

I would argue Ryan Johansen is a taller Danny Briere from his playing days.

Good news - Devils, Caps, and Islanders all LOSE IN REGULATION.

Scored only 1 goal between the three teams.

You clearly haven’t seen Danny or Johansen play, one or the other. Because they are not similar.

You saw the headline but didn't actually read the article did you? Because if you did you have clearly read this:

"I heard the Flyers were willing to have the conversation. Then came word that Johansen was battling something. So now that is now all on hold," Friedman said.

In this entire article Friedman clearly states he is speculating, he has no hard facts. What do you think this player might be battling? I don't think it needs to be spelled out.

I’m not sure the Flyers are going to ruin a guys career because of a douche agent. I’m not sure DB is going to work with the agent to get the kid elsewhere though. Be interesting if the Flyers want their own medical staff to evaluate the player as it appears the Flyers want to buy him out this summer but can’t if he’s injured.

I think it suits both parties for Johansen to sit out the rest of the season, then get bought out. He doesn't want to play in the AHL.

I was gonna say this too. I don't see any comparison between these two players whatsoever.

I think the injury is the actual problem here. If he is indeed battling something, was that disclosed before the deal was made? I think that is the crux of the "hard feelings" with the agent.

The Flyers may believe they were being deceived.

This is what they wanted to do to Vinny back in the day, but he had a NMC so they couldn't waive him.

But they still strongarmed enough that he agreed to be traded to LA and retire after that season, which voided the last two years of his contract and cost him $6,000,000.

EARLY RETIREMENT: Retired prior to the expiry of this contract (Jun. 21, 2016)

I mean this loosely. They’re both playmakers who were underwhelming defensively. The point. Torts wouldn’t have like Briere as a player.

He loved MSL, who's more similar to Briere than Johansen.

If a player is injured. Can he be waived and demoted. I'm not sure.

Very loosely. Briere worked his ass off and was a great playoff performer while Johansen is of the lazy Hazy mold.

Who is MSL?

I don’t think Torts would have liked Briere. Briere was that bad defensively. We all know Briere as a great playoff game breaker but in the regular season, I remember wanting more from Danny both ways.

I remember Martin St Louis and Steven Stamkos killing penalties together. I might be wrong about this but St Louis was good two ways and St Louis won scoring titles.

You're definitely not supposed to be able to demote an injured player. That's why sometimes you have career AHLers on the roster for months if they get hurt during training camp.

Johansen played every game for the Avs before he was traded.

One thing is true….regardless of who’s the GM…through them all….there’s always drama. It just never seems to go to plan.
I watch the Eagles signings yesterday….make a big splash, looking to move guys in and out. Regardless of if you like all the changes it’s entertaining. Then I listen to DB talk about keeping Laughton for the culture of the room? Is it not about winning ? Building ?
Not saying I disagree with Laughton still being here, just that one organization just goes balls to the wall to get better….while the other takes two steps forward, one step back.
Ye I know it’s two different sports, two different systems…but in watching the NFL coverage yesterday it’s easy to tell which is more entertaining.

When Torts got to Tampa they started building around their young core of Brad Richards and Vinny. St. Louis was a cast off ….that they hit pay dirt on….all three struggled with Torts methods and system in a big way….but all three bought in despite being ultra offensive talents. Torts butted heads with all three, but in the end all three were better for it as they won a cup. I’m not sure that works in todays NHL. I’m not sure today’s superstar thinks he has to follow a coach like Torts.

So let him refuse the assignment and his contract gets terminated - no need to buy him out - There are provisions in a SPC that regulate how players are to conduct themselves - pretty sure he doesn't want to lose out on 8M+ because of a bad attitude

They're far more similar than Briere and Johansen. Johansen is a big, slow center.
