I mean this loosely. They’re both playmakers who were underwhelming defensively. The point. Torts wouldn’t have like Briere as a player.
- roenick97

Briere had a knack for finding the net, they couldn’t be further from different players. A horrible comparison and another real dumb comment from you. Surprised, not in the slightest.

So let him refuse the assignment and his contract gets terminated - no need to buy him out - There are provisions in a SPC that regulate how players are to conduct themselves - pretty sure he doesn't want to lose out on 8M+ because of a bad attitude

The issue is that if there are claims of an injury now, I don't know if they can do that. At least that is how I see it.

There's no way he's going to get his deal ended and give up $8m+.

If he is injured they can't buy him out either - so they can Ellis him if the injury is bad enough if not when he heels he can go to LHV

It just seems shady that this injury talk came out of nowhere.

I don't know what the back story is here. There is no documented injury for Johansen on record this season.

You saw the headline but didn't actually read the article did you? Because if you did you have clearly read this:

"I heard the Flyers were willing to have the conversation. Then came word that Johansen was battling something. So now that is now all on hold," Friedman said.

In this entire article Friedman clearly states he is speculating, he has no hard facts. What do you think this player might be battling? I don't think it needs to be spelled out.

My sources say Johansen was embarrassed by and for Tortorella getting suspended.

I can see RyJo not wanting to play in the AHL. So maybe he nurses a minor "injury" through the end of this year. I think the Flyers will buy him out this offseason. He would be free to sign anywhere to make up the last 1/3 of what he would be owed.

That would be a really bad decision by the Flyers in my opinion. Why buy him out?

Exactly! Let him 'recover' from his 'injury' and if he refuses to report to the AHL, the team can suspend him and not be responsible for his salary i believe

They're far more similar than Briere and Johansen. Johansen is a big, slow center.
- Feanor

How?

Martin St Louis for example is a coach today. Briere is a GM.

Martin St Louis won a Cup, was a threat to win scoring titles each year. An all situations two way player. More importantly, St Louis was a winger.

Danny Briere was a full out offensive center who lacked in his own end. I don’t even remember Briere winning the scoring title for his own team on the Flyers.

List me the awards Briere and St Louis have between them. Your comparison is basically because the two men are short.

Absolutely do not buy out Ryan Johansen. Ridiculous. If the kid won't play in the AHL then so be it. The Flyers don't have to do anything.

He loved MSL, who's more similar to Briere than Johansen.

I think its more the mental and personality that torts doesnt like in someone more than skill set
