I hope the flyers pay his fine in Pennie’s and drop it off at buttmans office. - Hextall271
Drop a load in the bag of pennies too so that they have to clean it all off before rolling the pennies up.
Guys viciously attack each other and take cheap head shots and don't get fined like this.
I love the sport of hockey but the NHL is an absolute effing joke |

Was at the game last night, before hitting the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg today. Both were glorious. It has become so easy to hate the Flyers, from ownership to management to coaching to sportswriters to fans. Have to feel bad for the players, though. No wonder the Flyers can’t attract free agents without overpaying. - Quetzalcoatl
Congrats on your 20th. Enjoy the weather.

Ummm...if I think Torts looked like a clown, then he looked like a clown. It was embarrassing to watch. You knew he would have to leave, and having a childish fit because he has been kicked out was embarrassing to watch. What? Did he think he could just say, no, I'm staying, and they'd be like, oh..ok. It was childish and cost the team another penalty.
Watch it again. Tampa's player ended up on the ice. It would be called a trip/ interference 100% of the time.
About the 13 second mark. Very clear cut call.
https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/ev...lightning-20240309/220715
The ref screwed up and called Tampa for tripping, which they corrected to Attard.
He has been suspended 2 games, and fined for unprofessional conduct. He was wrong. - TheFreak
Embarrassing to whom to watch? How embarrassed were you exactly?
The league isn’t going go against the officials, they never do. Plenty of coaches get fined, suspended and kicked out of games. Look no further than Jon Cooper on the opposing bench who has also been kicked out of games. |

So what recourse do the flyers have if say next year Johansen refuses to play for the phantoms? The flyers could terminate his contract right? I don’t want him bought out. My guess is both sides would be fine if he makes up some bs long term injury |

Hathaway's move was dumb and it hurt the team. - MJL
Hathaway shoved a guy as he was coming on the ice and the other player was leaving. There was no warning. No prior issues with Hathaway earlier in game. The ref called 10 minutes instantly and we were already down by at least 3 or 4 goals. Two minutes sure but the call was extreme, after two bad calls already. |

I love the sport of hockey but the NHL is an absolute effing joke - Bob Habib I heard the Tampa feed in the clip I saw of Torts' meltdown (Brian Engblom I believe) and even he thought it was an overreaction by the ref. I guess the 2004 team that won the Cup with Torts was at the game last night and Engblom laughed when he said that there is no way Torts would have been tossed for that in 2004. Soft soft soft...WTF! Torts should have pulled a Rodger Nielsen and threw a rack of sticks on the ice on his way out! |

😂😂 - Bob Habib
How anyone could believe Torts made a fool of himself yesterday makes zero sense. This team might not be talented but I respect the pride. |

There is a collective bargaining agreement which limits what they can fine players. Not so for coaches.

I was embarrassed watching the game with my wife, kid and FIL, to watch a professional coach paid millions of dollars to act like that.
Right..lots of coaches get kicked out...none act like Torts did last night |

A 10 minute misconduct takes Hathaway off the ice, but does not put the team down a man short handed. A 2 minute penalty would have given a PP. |

We were in the middle of killing a penalty, which is why Hathaway was coming on to the ice. |

????
The whistle had been blown and it was between the active play.....Hathaway got a 10 min misconduct. He gets sent off the ice, but the other team doesn't get any additional PP time from it. If they called it a 2 minute unsportsmanlike penalty, it would have put the Flyers down 2 men, for 90 seconds or however long it would have taken Tampa to score. |

I never said at any time the Lightning gets any additional penalty time. We lost another penalty killer for ten minutes, while already killing multiple penalties and only having 5 defensemen. |

He is a well paid, professional coach who acted like an immature kid on tv. It was embarrassing!!!!
It was the type of crap I would expect from a PeeWee house division coach not a 20 plus year NHL vet.
Give me a break....Other Philly fans might think this is cool, and that Torts is a hero....but he cost the team last night. The guy is an assclown.
What exactly did it prove?
That he can look like an idiot on live tv? Yep..did that
Did it spark the Flyers? NOPE
Did the league think his actions were wrong? YES..fined and suspended....lol..both
To flip out over legit penalties, to the point he did was wrong. The team was getting shltkicked without the refs, and the penalties were the result of frustrated players over matched by a better and more talented team. |

And neither did I, I said that the lightning didn't get any additional PowerPlay time by it being a misconduct.
Only having 5 dmen is a coaching and team management issue, not a ref issue. Taking constant crappy penalties is too.
If they gave Hathaway a 2 min it would have been 5 on3 shortanded situation. The 10 min misconduct was actually in the Flyers favor.
A ref's call on a penalty is based on the penalty, not the players role to his team. It doesn't matter what Hathawy does best for the team if he does something stupid and gets a 10 minute misconduct for that stupid act.
I never said anything about a Tampa penalty being called.
You bltched and whined about them calling Hathaway and giving him a 10 minute penalty...saying a 2 min would have been better.

Jesus, you are really reaching.
A 10 minute misconduct will still show up in Hathaway PIMs stat. Did I say anything along the lines of “we were stuck killing a 10 minute penalty”? This is your created argument, not mine.
The Flyers having 5 defensemen is a management issue. They make the call on who is coming up and who is going down. Torts has said multiple time he hasn’t spoken to Lappy. |

It’s embarrassing to you because you were watching the game with your wife and kids? Well there’s your first mistake. Your second mistake is being embarrassed at all and being concerned about how much money he makes, as if you pay his salary yourself. Ownership is proud of Torts and willing to pay all his fines. Good for them. |

No his actions were embarrassing. I have said this repeatedly. I am not reaching for anything.
I don't care how much money he makes personally, but as the head coach of a pro team, his actions were embarrassing.
If you pulled that crap at whatever you do for a living, you would be fired instantly.
His actions were crap.
Time for you to move onto someone else. I am not looking to argue with you, and really don't need you acting like you are superior. Don't tell me what to be embarrassed by..who the hell do you think you are? |
