Dunno, it didn't seem like the team really responded in the Tampa game.

Maybe they'll take it out on the Sharks tomorrow.

- Tomahawk

That's a good point but they just didn't have it that game. I think it keep them loyal to Tortorella. At least for now.

Yeah, when he let in that blooper goal for the 3rd goal against that pretty much ended the game right there. When a team is struggling to find their footing your goalie can't give that goal up. That might have been his softest goal of the season to date.
- Phillywhiteout

In the end it’s one game….you put it behind you and move on. To be fair they haven’t had a clunker like this in a while.

Awful loss from top to bottom. Fortunately this team does not have too many clunkers this year. So I am willing to move on from this.

The org has to do better in terms of the roster. Having just 5 d-men available to start a game CANNOT happen. Ever.

That's not on the team in my opinion.

Worst loss for the Flyers this season. Torts getting ejected and refusing to leave actually gave the Flyers a bit of a break, allowing them to bring Sandstrom in and served as a way to take the spotlight off of a bad outing by the Flyers team and put the main focus of this bad game on Torts. He essentially shielded his players somewhat with those shenanigans, which isn't a bad thing IMO.

atta boy torts let them have it...that performance cost him two games and 50 grand. Well earned.

I know this comparison has been made but he and former Bears coach Mike Ditka are cut from the same cloth...here is this beauty from the late 80's.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIbNb1RZzlU

Refs continue to be mediocre to bad even the great Wes McCauly...phantom slashes, trips and holds. And then ignore some bad head hits and crosschecks.

Anyway like this flyer team I hope they make some noise in the playoffs.

Most teams "obstruct" players during puck pursuit in some form or another. The Isles are the kings of it. To me this was a call that did not need to be made. By rule I am sure it was a penalty. So the ref is not wrong.
- mickel25

Here is the way I look at that if I can explain it properly. If your actions trip the player, you stick out a leg, get a stick in skates, etc. That's tripping. You caused the player to trip. If in battling and in a race for a puck, the other player trips over you, in incidental contact. That's not a trip. A very marginal and border line call. The other Attard penalty around the net. There was literally nothing there.

Only having five d-men available? Or the overall awful play?

Brink not getting on the ice when they play 13 forwards including a washed Deslauriers and a waiver claim on his 4th team is horrendous on every level.
- Feanor

I am a Torts supporter and I have to agree with this - Gueranov should have been sent to the Phantoms to at least learn our systems. He looked lost out there. Bring him up if there's an injury or whatever, but inserting a bubble player right away is questionable when we're supposed to be "playing the kids". But I guess Briere wanted him in there. Hope this doesn't mean a demotion for Brink. He should not have to be supplanted on the depth chart for this acquisition, is a reclamation project at best.

I agree with this assessment and it’s why I’m ok with torts blowing a gasket. Horribly officiated first.

How is that not on the team? Ginning played for them on Thursday.

As has been discussed. It had to do with emergency recall rules. Ginning had to be sent down when Johnson joined the team. Then weather affected the ability for him to make the game in time once Zamula fell ill.

As MB stated above. Ginning was called up on emergency recall. Once the Flyers acquired Erik Johnson, the Flyers then had 6 healthy defenseman. By rule, they had to return Ginning back to the AHL. Zamula fell ill during the day, they couldn't get a player to the game in time. Maybe you could say that they could of called someone else up just in case for the trip to Florida but I don't know what the situation was with the Phantoms.

I think it may have put them into LTIR to keep him up on a non-emergency basis.

I don't see it having anything to do with LTIR but I could be wrong. They have 1.5M of cap space currently.

This is pure speculation but it seems to me as if it's possible that his former players found it humorous but not in an embarrassing way but more like, yea, that's Torts. I'm not a Tortorella fan, news flash, but I don't have an issue with the coach standing up for his team if he thinks they're getting screwed. It's most likely to result in team bonding in a us against them sort of way.

Someone suggested that online. It may have had something to do with RYJO having to clear waivers though I am not sure of the timing.

If not, I am not sure of the actual reason as it seems they could have changed his designation otherwise.

Absolutely. There is zero accountability with the officiating. The league isn’t going to go against them. The refs set the tone and called a bad game 11 minutes in. There is no excuse or argument for the men in the strips. You can find breakdown everywhere in detail of where Wes Macaulay went wrong.
- roenick97

Do we have definitive proof over what exactly Torts did or said that got him the game? I see coaches give the refs tongue lashings all the time without a game misconduct. Shouldn’t the NHL be transparent? And why was this call different from the countless calls that don’t result in a coach being ejected. It would be nice the NHL to splain it to us. Also, while the Hathaway shove was dumb, crap like that goes on all the time. Why a 10? It didn’t seem so unusual as to merit a 10.

It does seem that there’s no explanation or accountability and the NHL refs have been getting more and more of a bad reputation these last several years. I’m sure being and NHL is ridiculously hard, but it would be nice to get an explanation.

The Flyers are outmanned against pretty much every top team. Hasn't stopped them from competing for the most part. They lost their structure in the game. Which is what normally happens when they have a clunker.

TB isn't the same juggernaut they were a few seasons ago but at the end of the day they literally have three (3) 1st ballot HOF'ers in their lineup (Stamkos, Hedman, Kucherov) with 2 more potential HOF'ers (Point, Vasilevskiy).

Again, we are in agreement. Especially, if by lost structure you meant not having a full complement on D and having 2 players, who have never played with the team yet.
