Again, we are in agreement. Especially, if by lost structure you meant not having a full complement on D and having 2 players, who have never played with the team yet. - missingmike
By structure, I mean their systems structure. The Flyers have been competitive all year by playing with strong positional checking, tight gaps and strong puck support. That was missing against TB. Lots of white ice for TB in that game.

Boys may respond versus Sharks, but what about the 2nd game of the suspension. TOR. We are battling for a playoff spot and our coach will be in the press box.
He wasn't wrong for arguing. He needed to make his point. He was in the wrong for not leaving in a timely fashion.

The two skates colliding innocently were the only reason the guy fell…Attard did not warrant a penalty. Brutal call… it’s not a penalty. It’s not like he hooked him it was two guys skating for the puck. - landros 2
So when a player steps on another players stick blade, it is called tripping. When a stick blade is caught in the bottom of a skate blade, it is called tripping. Three guys pursue the puck, the 1 guy from 1 team goes to the ice, the 2 guys from the other team doesn't. Done on purpose or not, that is getting called tripping or interference everytime. If he didn't go to the ice..no call, but the Tampa player ended up on the ice. |

I was embarrassed watching the game with my wife, kid and FIL, to watch a professional coach paid millions of dollars to act like that.
Right..lots of coaches get kicked out...none act like Torts did last night - TheFreak

No, no I am not.
I can't support a coach who made a fool out of himself on live tv. That doesn't make me wrong...it means I have morals and ethics about how people should act and how they shouldn't.
His behavior was childish and embarrassing. End of story. |

Are you a professional sports head coach? If the answer is anything but yes, you have nothing to be embarrassed about. |

I guess now we will find out the worth of Torts taking in a few games from the press box, this past preseason. Does Shaw have the goods? |

Yup.
It's within McCauley's authority to toss Torts out, for whatever reason. Any other coach would just say their piece, take the L and live to fight another day.

No actually its not called every time…and it shouldn’t be. Because that’s not a penalty. Now sometimes guys don’t look like something is done on purpose…that’s what any call is….a judgement call. Regardless it’s was a phantom BS call that wasn’t a penalty. |

I would have been more embarrassed had Torts not stuck up for his team. I don’t like some of the things he does as a head coach, but this time he was spot on. |

When he first called 23 Tampa, I thought he was calling the correct player but saying the wrong penalty because IMO it was a dive.

I don’t Attard did anything wrong…I also didn’t understand why the TBay guy would have been called…he did embellish a bit…but I don’t think it deserved anything either… |

Amen! He ticks me off with his lineup decisions but I'm glad he stuck up for his team. I loved seeing him give it to the refs. Another poster and I think it was Al Morganti after the game said that maybe he was trying to stall to get the Flyers to regroup during the goalie change. Either way, good for him!

With all due respect, if a player steps on another players stick, that's not tripping. I've seen that not called countless times. If a ref calls that tripping, he's made a bad call. Is it first guy to fall down gets the call? I also disagree with that. A play like that is not going to get called every time. That's a50/50 call at best. In a race for the puck, you have a right to take a path to the puck. If one goes to the ice in that battle and race, it's incidental. It was a very weak call.

How did you feel about Wes not coming to the bench to hear from Torts? That's within his rights as well. I don't think there's anything that says the referee needs to engage with the coach. He knew Torts was going to give him an earful. He just waited across the ice for him to leave. Torts may have left earlier if Wes engaged him.
I still very much dislike Torts. But I don't blame him for giving it to the refs. Just think he should have left much sooner.

The Devils are done in my opinion. Jake Allen isn't enough to save their bacon. The Pens were done weeks ago. - MJL
Thinking ahead on the Flyer goalie situation what move could you see in the summer?
I could see them taking a shot at Gibson now that it’s down to 6.4 Mil/3 yrs.

Call me crazy but I am honestly not concerned about Toronto. Sure they have Matthews and Marner, but I just think they are easy to shut down if the Flyers are on their game. The Bruins do it routinely and the Flyers showed they could do it the last time they played, minus about 7 minutes of course.

Exactly. The Bruins do it with Pasta on the roster. The Flyers have Konecny.

At that point, Tortorella had already had his pound of flesh, which is why he got tossed. At that point, no ref is going to further engage. Tortorella was on the edge of the refs calling more penalties. I fully support Tortorella protesting those BS calls. He should've left though when he got tossed just as you stated.
