Hope the Isles lose the last wildcard spot by one measly point.
- Leafsmart

It's going to be really sad when Washington squeaks in with a -60 goal differential and OV leading them in scoring with a measly 60 points.

I don't know why they couldn't have closed this loophole by only permitting a cap compliant game roster in the playoffs.

So a vet makes his return, but you've added a bunch of cap at the deadline, because you didn't know if he'd be healthy or not.

No biggie, just make sure the team on the ice is cap compliant.

We will see what happens in the next GM meeting if there's even talk of it. I think the NHL actually likes it because it's allowing for a lot of "super teams" to begin to exist for the most important games of the season. The playoffs.

I agree that it seems like a very reasonable solution to the issue. If they ever decide to address it, then that will probably be the likely solution. Add whoever you have room for at the deadline, but if people come off LTIR for the playoffs, you have to be cap compliant. Maybe allow exceptions to park these players for the postseason. In Tampa's case, they could have Sergachev back, but they would have to sit Dumba and Duclair (or similar $$$) to make it work.

That leg break was brutal. I know he's young and tough, but I can't imagine him returning any time soon, unless the Lightning go to the Finals or something.

Pulls a Stamkos. Plays 3 minutes, scores a season defining goal. Dies and retreats back to the bench.

Or they give some sport of luxury tax at the TDL, the NHL needs more hockey trades like the VGK did.

Change the max years for a contract to 4 or 5.

The NHL should be fun. The NHL should want players like Hertl to be in the playoffs instead of rotting away.

Again, I think the NHL likes the hard cap. It's allowed this type of movement in the NHL. Players end up in free agency that otherwise wouldn't.

Getting rid of the hard cap won’t make them more money it will just cost them more in salaries.

You know what's a crazy stat I just noticed because I have him on one of my fantasy teams - Shea Theodore has just 4 hits in 32 games! 4! As far as I can see he has the lowest hits/game among Dmen.

I'm going to disagree here.

I've always argued that MLB benefits from the big market teams being good - it gives people someone to hate.

Hate is passion.

It benefits MLB when teams like the Yankees (holy poop, they haven't been in a World Series since 2009!), Dodgers and Rangers are competitive.

The NHL would love a Rangers vs. Blackhawks final.

Tied with Tony DeAngelo, but DeAngelo has played fewer games.

(This is for all defencemen who have played 15 or more games).

If you do it by hits per 60 minutes, Theodore is in dead last - 0.32, with DeAngelo second last at 0.62.
