Remember when Gilmour took injections for his sprained ankle and kept playing?
These kids today, I tells ya. Soft as the scrambled eggs I eat every morning before my nap... |

Strength and conditioning coach Skalapy would have prevented this by making sure that Marner didn't skip leg day or neck day. |

Maybe barely playing down the stretch here will be good for him.
Points barely matter foe the Leafs now, stay away from the noise and be fresh in 5 weeks. |

I don't think it has been published anywhere.
You have to think if it is an indefinite leave, that something seriously not good is happening. |

The media seems content that the Leafs are locked into the #3 spot in the Atlantic. But, how secure is that really? What if Vasi regains his pre-surgery form and the Lightning get hot? If the Leafs start struggling, the Lightning are going to be breathing down their neck.
Florida and Boston is a dogfight for #1 and #2, but #3 could get interesting.
The Leafs currently have a 7 point standings lead with a game in hand with 16 games remaining.
Lightning currently have more regulation wins for the tie-breaker.
Bolts and Leafs have two head to head matchups remaining.
It's not a likely scenario, but it's not unthinkable. |

If you can say TB can catch the Leafs then the Leafs can still get 1st on the division |

It's basically unthinkable.
Let's do some mathing, shall we?
Leafs have 85 points in 66 games. That's a 64% winning percentage. Extrapolated over 82 games, that's 106 points.
Tampa has 78 points in 67 games. That's a 58% winning percentage. Extrapolated over 82 games, that's 95 points.
If Tampa was to win every single one of their remaining 15 games, that gets them to 100 points.
If the Leafs dip to .500 hockey and only win 8 of their next 8 games, that gets them to 101 points.
More realistically, if Tampa goes on a heater and wins 11 of their remaining 15 games, the Leafs would have to go 3-12-1 for Tampa to catch them.

Put another way, the magic number* for the Leafs to lock up #3 in the division is 23.
*Any combination of Leafs points earned and Tampa points not earned.

Well yall just shat all over that bright idea.
I was too lazy to dive into the finer math on it, so thanks for that. Looking at the actual numbers, that does look like a tall hill to climb. Not impossible, but almost.
Leafs are 10 points back of Boston, but have 3 games in hand.
Edit : if Tampa won out on 15 games (30 points), that would get them to 108 points (78 currently), their record winning streak is 11 games. |

something related to his younger son (David Savard said something about playing for Marty and his son). The team said the leave is indefinite and they have no other update to give. Family is more important than a team fighting for a lottery pick with 16 games left

I did a spreadsheet about 20 years ago, and I just keep it on the hard drive.
Whenever I want to crunch numbers, I just fill in the current standings. |
