so why do so many people like Ryan Lindgren
- jimbro83

Because of his toughness and max effort. Guy gives everything he has. Again, everybody, even me, likes Ryan Lindgren. But I also realize he's been bad this year. I don't know if it's an off year, or it's because his play style is starting to catch up with him.

Ryan Lindgren is just the kind of guy the advanced stats people are gonna hate, just like Dan Girardi was

he's gonna play hard minutes, penalty kill, late game intense game moments

if that worth a raise and long term contract this summer? who knows, but I guarantee you we will miss him the next few weeks, especially against Boston

- jimbro83

This is the exact kind of thing someone who hasn’t actually looked at advanced stats would say. He’s been completely adequate as fox’s partner season after season until this one. Almost no offense but good enough at clearing the zone and great defensively. Whatever the reason for the decline this season, injuries are the real concern for signing him long term.

Absolute truth.
Apparently metrics don't have a column for "Difficulty of Minutes" or "eXpected Sacrifice of Health."

They absolutely do

Thank you, fellow contrarian.

Literally everyone is on the same page about Ryan lindgren. Heart and soul player. Brings intensity and (up until this season) stability to the fox pairing. Gets injured too much. People just like to make up things to disagree about

Stupid? No. You just are making up something in your mind that no one is actually saying and supporting it with an assumption about advanced stats that is actually untrue

Nobody is calling you stupid. You just don't pay attention to advanced stats. Just like nobody dislikes Ryan Lindgren. He's here, when he gets healthy hopefully his game improves. Just like we all want Zibanejad to improve his game.

no no no, any positive advanced stats for Mika all are because of the goalie

You and your brother get in these very obstinate states of mind, usually as it pertains to this exact topic. Then you argue things that no one is saying and get yourself all worked up. Neither Tom nor I rely solely on charts. They are helpful, no doubt. And actually in this case they refute this made up notion you’ve constructed that charts hate lindgren, when they have not shown that to be true until this season. And the simple answer is because he’s sucked thus far this season.

For the right term and AAV he should of course come back. But he’s breaking down in real time and that’s the issue with signing him. Not charts, which actually state the opposite

how is this even possible consider how much ice time he gets and we are one point from being #1 overall in the league

I mean at 5 on 5 he's been on for more shots again, scoring chances against and high danger scoring chances against. He's also on the ice at .9270 save percentage. Are all of those shots and chances his fault? No. But I'm also not calling him a selke candidate. And the reason why I'm doing it 5 on 5 is because on the Power play, you shouldn't be giving up more shots on goal then you generating and for the PK vice versa. This isn't voodoo. It's simple math.

They do, actually, yes.
- BINGO!

I'm not talking about strength of competition, though. I'm talking about spending a large portion of your time on the ice battling in the corner or in front of the net, taking a hit to make the red line and dump it in, or taking a stray puck or stick or elbow like Lindgren seems to do every single game. That sort of thing.

He hated the fact that you traded for a guy who was 100% going to sign with you and only you in a couple months anyway.

They don't hence why I can't say you're wrong. I also factor out the penalty kill. Those are tough minutes designed for the penalty killers to be a disadvantage. Hence why I only use 5 on 5. Because to a man, every player should be accounted for.

Fair. I apologize. Still take everything I’ve said and subtract any mention of him here. I don’t get what the hang up is here. Why do you want to argue he’s been good when every single metric, basic or advanced or just the eye test, say he’s been average at best. It’s probably due to nagging injuries or wear and tear from how he plays. That factors into contract decisions of course

I didn't know for sure he was gonna sign with the Rangers. I just hated giving up picks to during a clear rebuild. But turns out, I'm just some idiot on the internet who was wrong.
