have you ever owned up to Panarin being a great Rangers FA sign, or are you waiting until after the playoff this year to admit you were wrong? - Greschnergy#4
This is the most important playoff run in as long as I can remember. For the Rangers and for Panarin individually.
After so many wins this season, my wife says, “you used to be so much happier when they won!” To which I say, “I can only be happy about regular season success for so long!”
ITS TIME!! |

but, does this take into account the opposing players when he's on the ice - jimbro83
It does not. But I can pull Kopitar and Barkov numbers to see how different they look. |

Mitch Marner has been on ice for 32 goals against this season 5 on 5
Mika on the ice for 31 goals against 5 on 5 - jimbro83
Unfortunately, just like Norris voting, there is offensive bias that plays a part.

another thing with the "goaltending" as the source of the stats
it's goaltending when Mika is only out there for 31 goals against 5 on 5 in 67 games
but....it's his fault that he's only been on for 40 goals scored 5 on 5, not the goaltending in that case |

I said at the time signing Panarin will not help with the rebuild, which as it turns out was a retool. His contract triggered numerous buyouts that costs us to lose assets for nothing. I had said at the time he will hurt the rebuild by winning games that dont mean anything, which as it turns out, we moved up in the draft. We have a few prospects now but basically our window to win is only a few more years now. I had said you dont know how he will perform in the playoffs, to justify his salary he will have to lead the team, which in the past 3 playoffs, he has been weak. This year he looks to be different so we will see. You could argue anyway you want and to wave a flag during the regular season, its your choice but for me, its the playoffs. One Cup in the last 85 years sucks. |

Thanks. Will be interesting to see if it leaks out what the actual injury is instead of "lower body" |

Doesnt a high save percentage imply better defense in front of the goaltender?

Panarin is probably the best free agent signing in NY history
people need to stop being so loyal to their previous opinions

Panarin only has 435 points in 336 games as a Ranger
I don't need some word salad trying to come up with reasons why this hasn't been a good signing lol

Maybe, or it might be that he's facing more shots and having to make more saves. |

I think its reasonable to say he is by far our best free agent signing but hasn't worked out in the playoffs yet. Doesn't necessarily have to be one or the other. |

I would say the best. He's already 16th in franchise history for points despite playing less than 400 games. |

which reason to you seems more likely or has the larger contributing percentage? |

I mean bringing up that he's cost us buyouts and missing out on acquistions, give me a break

Yeah I wasn't defending Brukie's opinion, I just hope he kills it this year in the playoffs. |

Jones has been pretty respectable lately. Lots of decent plays in both zones and no glaring mistakes. Looks like he is getting comfortable |

When Kreider is on the ice, the Rangers have had 868 shot attempts against at 5 on 5. 883 shot attempts for.
Zibanejad: 875 against, 834 for. There is clearly something off in his game. Roslovic has helped. Hopefully that continues. |
