I dunno. He’s old school enough to try that. That’s exactly the strategy that Herb Brooks used with the 80 Olympic team. That may be a short term strategy from Torts to try a mind game into a playoff spot. It’s a short term strategy that burns credibility. Torts doesn’t care. He’s always in the present. - Minnyhock
That's not his M.O. Tortorellla has a lot of screwed up ways but I don't see him purposely looking to upset a room that has been completely buying into what he wants as a coach. Not with the team on the verge of making the playoffs.

Yup….they had a copuple really good looks…3 two on ones….not ideal…but a massive point. - landros 2
It was a good point, the 4th line together got 16 minutes. Play CAR in a 7 game series, that strategy needs to change.
As mentioned earlier, don't like losing OT without TK. Tippett, or Frost getting on the ice. |

So in reality you got nothing? Just your opinion like the rest of us. - Flyfly
I simply said I don't think it was true that Coots didn't rock the boat. he dog whistled to the media to come stick up for him. he should have just rode it out and said the things captains say - they point at themselves first and say "I need to be better" rather than whimpering in the corner. this has for some reason made you upset.

At 5 on 5 Cates had 5:37, Lycksell 5:01 and Deslauriers 3:43. No available ice time for Couturier.

No, no, no… don’t recoil now. You said your Daddy has been w the Org for over 20 years. If that is the case Bill and your Dad know each other. If your gonna bring up the Daddy card you can’t play coy here.
If you know more than Bill give us a rebuttal. Everything you typed is nothing more than opinion.

I'll say it again. That's on Torts. Leaving points on the ice there. Starting Poehling and then subbing out for Laughton. Carolina had their rippers out there. It's so silly. Frost Konecny and Tippett should have been out there. - Pixote Andolini
Agreed. Idiocy. What is he doing playing for the shootout? |

i recommend you re-read what was written and then perhaps you'll understand what I said.
I said I trust my source more than I trust Bill. You trust Bill more than you trust my opinion. Which is fine. that's how forums work. |

I just don' t like splitting up Cates-Poehling-Hathaway to move Cates to center. It's just foolish. I feel bad for Cates starting to make a difference on wing, back to center you go. Not sure how that is building Cates' future |

Torts borrowing from the Herb playbook. How old school does one need to get before people realize that doesn’t work in the modern day NHL? Doesn’t matter if you agree or not today’s game is different. - Flyfly
I do like that they are more structured….I do like that there is a semblance of accountability…even if it seems skewed sometimes. I like that some of the young guys that needed to progress this year have done just that. But with that said I’m not a fan of some of the methods he uses.
We’ll see how things go to finish this year. The story is not over. |

Anybody missing cryturier? - Just5
No. I’d scratch him the rest of the year, then send him out like we did Hayes. He’s clearly the reason the team had stuggled. Oh by the way, they still lost. |

They can make life rough on the Canes in a series if indeed they can get in. I mean after a Torts Blue Jackets pulled their massive upset a few years ago anything is possible…but that’s a tough task both talent and depth wise. |

Just horrendous coaching. The Flyers dominated the 3rd period. You're on the road, just put a hard earned point on the road against a top team in the bank. It's time to attack and go after the other point. His top offensive players and top line in Konecny, Frost and Tippett don't see the ice in OT. That's the problem with Tortorella. He defaults and favors defense too much. He overplays grinders. |

Seeler is out. Walker is gone. Atkinson has faded and Couturier is gassed. He sees himself as the focal point and lightning rod that can ignite the team with a dramatic move. That’s who he is.

Ya that’s not ideal with the 3 best offensive guys who have been going not seeing the ice. |

Great game despite the loss. I'll take the point although I admit I was pissed when the Canes scored as I really thought we could pull off the W.
Bill, thank you for your insight into the Coots situation. I hope that some on here can put to rest their belief that evil Torts is scratching Coots bc he is mad that Jonesy and DB wanted Coots to be captain and didn't get his way.

That's just not how he operates. He took Couturier out because he thinks that's better for the team. He's wrong but it's not for some purposeful attempt to make some kind of psychological ploy to get the team to band together. The team has been together all year.

What’s with Brad Shaw doing the post game interviews? Why not the coach? Such a strange chain of events the last few days. |
