It would be awesome if Sullivan allows them enough time to stick. - madmike71

That's on Dubas. Don't give him the vets that he currently has.
Let Carter walk
Trade Acciari
Bury Nieto
He can't use what he doesn't have. GM has to force the coaches hand.

If the GM doesn't give him the option to play other players, he has to play them.

Is this like how he would be shocked if Alex Nylander wasn't a regular by the end of the year? |

I was going to post the same thing. Don't give him those options. It's nice that Dubas is having an epiphany. He's having it a little late lol.

The risk would be if Jake falls off at some point. - 123Kid
True, but less of a risk than some of the others we have signed. |

Solid point. I know he said he wants to get younger but there arent a load of young guys in free agency....so, hopefully he doesnt get the itchy sign vets in free agency finger |

Speaking of Nylander, no points and -6 in his last 4 games. Reverting to the player we saw in PIT. |

Let’s be honest. This team is beneath Carter at the moment. |

lol probably. Again -- when you give the coach vet options, he's going to play the vets. He needs to force Sully's hand.

You called it, man. When everyone else was hauling out the "Dubas is dumb" for trading this guy comments, you called it. The Kapanen to the Blues comparison was spot on.

Carter isn't the teams biggest problem, and wouldn't be an issue at league min, but at 3.125m, he's a waste.

Speaking of limiting vet options, apparently Dubas was asked if Nieto's career may be over and his answer was basically all options are being explored. |

That sucks for him. Wasn't it just laparoscopic knee surgery? They said it was successful back in January.

Problem is, Dubas was the one who gave Sullivan 2 of these 3 options himself only 7 months ago pretty much forcing Sullivan to play them. Along with Eller at 34 and smith at 32. It’s not like it’s Dubas first 2 years in the league like he shouldn’t have known this. Gotta have a little better foresight than that. My hope as a pens fan is his first move other then signing Graf and Quillan is hiring a GM. |

Thats great if that is his actual attitude. Notice he only started to embrace the youth movement once everyone in the media started skewering him for the poor job he did on the roster.
Pickering is at least another year out. Zero chance he plays with the Pens next year (unless we have gone full rebuild mode).
I am very optimistic about Yager. If I were Dubas I would do the same thing we did with Jake when he was younger. Even if he is ready, put him in WBS for the first half of the year to adjust to the pro game and get a ton of minutes and bring him up later in the season.
Not sure about Koivunen but I do know we are going to be roster spot limited at some point. I think JP, Puustinen, Poulin & Eller are locks for the bottom 6. DOC (who might fit in that previous group) Accari & Nieto under contract. Gruden & Bemstrom are there also. |

You can bury Neito in the AHL, let Carter walk, and Acciari is probably tradable. He's acknowledged his bottom 6 roster construction as a fail in the midseason presser so hopefully he acts on it.

Unfortunately transfer rules won't let them do that with Yager. Could be a plan next year. Could be their approach to Pickering who I'd agree could use some AHL time (most players can).
Koivunen I think that would be a good plan for. I would definitely start him on the AHL, but if he's tearing it up there they can consider a recall and let the other options show if they deserve their spots.
Bennstrom is moving towards non-tender for me. I'd rather have someone who can play center as my extra forward, and Puustinen and Puljujarvi would start ahead of him. Guess they can sneak him through waivers though. |

No doubt those are easy to fix. My point was he’s been in a NHL GM role for 10 years now and still thought thats what this team needed…
I know he gave the lip service of “it was a failure” but never did a damn thing all season to even try to fix it besides grab waiver guys… Kinda shocking to me more people aren’t really hoping for a GM to be hired I guess |
