MSU beats UM 4 out of 5 during the season and Big 10 tourney, so of course Michigan beats them to get to the Frozen 4. |

The bonus is Nazar keeps playing if he was to sign wouldn't be able to burn a year off his ELC. |

I don't believe that's true. Nazar's last game will be either April 11 or April 13 depending how Michigan does in the tournament finals. Hawks have games on April 14, 16 and 18th. Nazar can conceivably sign after his college season is over, play in a game or two, and burn the 1st year of his ELC.
Toronto's Matthew Knies did something similar late last season. |

I think Knies was 20 when he signed so there is no slide and he played 7 playoff games to go along with his 3 regular season games, Nazar i believe has to either play 10 games in the 23-24 season or turn 20 this year. Something like that to not be eligible for the slide rule.
Oh nevermind looks like he's 20 already |

I'm looking forward to Nazar joining the team, it doesn't matter if its this season or next. From a purely contract perspective, I think next year is better that way the contract expiration for the young guys is laddered a bit. I think the Hawks have 10 RFAs at the end of the 25/26 season.

Nazar's highlight reel assist from last night.

So is that assist going to be called the Michigan, just as we have the lacrosse style goal called the Michigan? Or is it the Nazar? or Nazy (whatever his nickname becomes)?

Interesting info dug up by Powers:
Over at The Athletic, Scott Powers looked at some good numbers from Blackhawks and the organization’s prospects this season. Lots of good stuff packed into it, so I recommend you give it a read. Here are three from his list that I really liked:
Nazar is one of six Blackhawks prospects to average a point or more a game this season (minimum 20 games). The others are Gavin Hayes (1.38), Nick Lardis (1.35), Paul Ludwinski (1.15), Cole Guttman (1.08) and Samuel Savoie (1.05).
Kevin Korchinski has led Blackhawks defensemen with a 15.0 entry denial percentage, according to [Corey] Sznajder’s data. Alex Vlasic is second with 13.5. Both are among the upper echelon of the league in that category.
Connor Bedard averages 18.36 controlled entries per 60 minutes, according to Sznajder’s data. Only five players — Jack Hughes, Jack Eichel, Nikolaj Ehlers, Nathan MacKinnon and Mathew Barzal — are ahead of him. |

Another reason why I wouldn’t move him for a crack at a puck moving defenseman. IMHO, Korchinski is going to end up as a good all around defenseman. 95%, if not more, of the elite puck moving defensemen in the league are below average in their own zone. Look at Karlsson, put up 101 points last year and was a minus 26. I know that plus/minus is team driven most of the time, but -26 while putting up 101 points? Like I said, give me the all around defenseman that puts up 60 points vs 100 with weak defensive skills. FYI, Bobby Orr is excluded in this opinion, he was good in his own end as well. |

Yeah analytics aside, he still sucks. Trade him based on this misleading statistical fallacy. |

You are right. It's first and foremost about defensive and all around play. Individual accolades are cool, but they don't win championships.
Guys we had like Keith and Seabrook never lead all Dmen in points (Keith was close a couple times) but their biggest value was defensive and overall contribution breaking up plays, controlling the play, being in control of the game. A lot of things that don't get counted up in point totals.
The team needs to focus on defense first and rely on the guys like Bedard to do their damage when the opportunity comes or on the powerplay. As long as our D can move the puck up ice, join the rush when needed, we don't need them to be an offensive force on their own, if they can play solid defensive minutes, deny the opposition in the middle of the ice, deny entries, and avoid errors in their own end.
