Tortorella’s postgame last night was a complete embarrassment and should be alarm bells for the other 2/3rds of the triumvirate. It is a look into the future as the coach has limited coaching tools and is now flailing around like an infant.

I agree with MJL. The team has played its balls off all year. They’re human, not machines. There will be dips in play over the course of an entire season. The astonishing thing to me is this team has actually played at this intensity over more of the season than I thought possible.

Despite that, the cult leader and its members are out for blood in full force today. Calling players soft, etc.

Disgraceful

What's worse? When Mr. Accountability shows up at the presser just to blast his team or when he doesn't hold himself accountable and doesn't show up at all for the presser after a loss?

Not you but others specifically mentioned that he was too old and didn't fit the rebuild timeframe.

They better not have only had him come over for that, especially in view of what I saw last night. I'd be giving him several starts now that we're out of contention. I'd then be looking to sign him (with hopes that he doesn't ask for the moon in salary). He and ersson could form a good tandem. I'm not ready to throw Ersson under the bus. He's clearly gassed.

- Hextall271

Ersson has had a good year for a young goalie, but he clearly is struggling. Fedotov looked solid last night, gave them every chance to win. That might indeed be the Tandem next year.
As far as Torts comments last night, no one should surprised. That’s him. It’s his last ditch effort to get this turned around. Call out their man hood….lol… Frankly I don’t see it, but they have surprised me all year. To me the difference has been the goaltending….it’s really given them chances all year. Of late it’s not. Most teams struggle when they are chasing games and that is happening every night it seems.

Torts post game was an embarrassment although I am sure it will go over well will the knuckle-dragging portion of the fanbase. Just like some of the players he appears to be running on empty. Again, he has done some really good things w this team but his act is tiresome.

Kudos to Fedotov who looked very good considering the circumstances. With the Caps playing well I expect them to get into the playoffs. All the while the Flyers brass sat on their hands to make the playoffs and here we are - mediocrity at its finest. I an not even mad but apathy has settled back until this team decides to actually rebuild. A New Era of Orange is a nice marketing slogan but this feels like more of a "retool" on the fly w a more competent GM.

Can't wait for that 9M x 8 yr for TK.

Not sure why you keep bringing up Hart....

He was suddenly gone, nothing the team could control or plan for, and the decision to trade/re-sign him or not was taken out of their hands completely (for better or worse).

Now they just have to work with who they've got.

And if Fedotov plays well they'd better pray like hell that he sticks around and doesn't run off in UFA or back to Russia.

I bring up Hart because when he was still here, some had posted that he was too old to still be around for the rebuild and that was one reason that they should move on. Fedotov is 27 so is he too old? I certainly don’t believe that and think he’s likely entering his prime. They have to re sign him.

They will sign him. GMDB has already said so publicly.

Hart is gone and never coming back. At best he has is taking over goalie duties for Ricky LaFluer at Sunnyvale Prison.

My opinion had to do with Hart not being worth the contract they would have to sign him too. I've explained that numerous times.

I’ll say, you never know. Not that this team is as talented, but in 07-08, we had rebounded from the disastrous previous season very well all year until down the stretch. As I remember it, I think we lost 10 in a row and sunk to like 7th or 8th seed right before the playoffs.

I was sure that they weren’t going to make it but they stabilized. Then, we go up 3 1 vs Washington then Lose two straight. Win in ot on game 7. I’m used to this team putting me through the wringer on a roller coaster ride so nothing would shock me

What will it take to re-sign Fedotov versus what it would've taken to re-sign Hart? It's not about age. It's about contract.

Yes, goalies do get going later than most, 24-25 years old to break into the league and around Feds' age when they start really rolling.

On the flip side the Flyers brought Hart in way too early and he was probably stunted because of it. He was likely never gonna be anything more than average. That's the main reason why it would have been a bad idea to give him an 8-year extension... not age.

Considering they just burned a year of his contract (something they weren't willing to do with Gauthier) they will resign him. The difference from Hart is he will probably get a lower money shorter contract than what Hart would've gotten. Hart was never going to be worth the money and term it would've cost to keep him.

That has been explained to him numerous times. Some seem to think that the Flyers lost this really good goalie when in reality, he was nothing but average. In the big picture, this season in terms of making or not making the playoffs, is simply not that important.

per Torts- rest won't help if there is no heart.
- missingmike

Tortorella can't help himself. They've showed heart all season. Now they don't have that. The coach likes confrontation. If I was a veteran player on that team. He would be getting one.

Exactly.

He was no worth a long extension. There is a fascination with parts of the fanbase surrounding Hart. They think he is the next coming of Price. He is (was) an average goalie...

Quote of the year from Torts in the post game last night. And he is absolutely right. Said the only player that played in the second period was Fedotov, and this fact was embarrassing to the Flyers uniform.
- jd250

torts is a fn fraud. when you gonna realize that? his message is wearing thin. come next November the mutiny will begin in full force.

speaking of Ivan, guess he will be the next flyers player to get over hyped. let him play a nice sample before he is the anointed one or if he falters.

Sam has shown 2 years in a row he "wears" down. Or maybe he just isnt that good. Good be a combo of both. Not like he was lights out in his LHV stint.

Tortorella's Flyers are 18th in the NHL and out of a playoff spot by P%.

Does he still get coach of the year consideration if they finish 20-something?

after what Ivan saw he may not want to re-sign.....

I play him as the main goalie the rest of the way unless he schitts the bed.

Sam gassed 2 years in a row, what's that tell?

I don't think they burned a year. It was already tolled once, and he's 27 going on 28.

It truly is and it's almost weird. Also, taking time to post about it. If I hated the team that much, I'd stop watching and pick another team/just move on.
- Hextall271

The problem is it is a flawed management philosophy that has not won anything for 50 years. It is so flawed that the greenest of fans can see it, yet they continue to value big, grit, vanilla/safe players and ignore speed, skating (look at how many of their draft picks "need to work on their skating") and skill. Look at last night -- sit Brink play ND, for what 3 minutes, sit Ginning play Johnson who is a fossil. It becomes so frustrating that people are driven to irrational behavior, like root against their favorite team. The hope is if they are bad enough management (philosophy) will change, which we know will never happen, which makes us behave even more irrational.....

I didn’t have a problem with his post game presser. He didn’t send Shaw out. He didn’t storm off the podium. He called out the team. Not only did he call out the team, Torts was saying all the things that get said in here.

I agree but they could have gotten some assets in a trade for him. So that was a miss.
