The structure is changed because they want to have a winner in head to head play. 3 on 3 makes that more likely. As far as the shootout, when it happens, the fans are on their feet. The NHL sees that and overall it's popular.
- MJL

Maybe when the shootout first came out, I feel like fans are over it and see it for what it is. Not much excitement around the shout-out anymore.

How do folks around here feel about Berube as a coach?

I know there's a lot of talk about Torts moving "upstairs". Move upstairs to do what? Co-GM with Briere? With his ego I don't see him happy unless he can feel like he's the boss.

I hope Sullivan gets canned by the Pens and the Flyers pounce on him.

I like him better than Tortorella. I'd reserve the right to pass further judgement based on his performance if hired. Tortorella moving upstairs into management is terrifying.
- MJL

tell the board why it is terrifying. provide some some substance as to why you draw this conclusion.

He inherited a team with a lot of talent. He had a goalie that caught fire. Won the cup. Was okay after that.

If he his hired, I would expect the same results that Torts has gotten until they get an elite goal scorer.

The media is starting to turn on Torts. Some headlines from today include "Could John Tortorella already be wearing out his welcome" and "Tortorella's criticism of Flyers is unfounded". Russ Cohen today said he thought there was a 50/50 chance Torts would be moved upstairs next season and he sees Craig Berube, who is best friends with Keith Jones, every day.

When Torts leaves I think it is 100% Berube.

well lest say he does go "upstairs". you don't think he will push for his right hand man Shaw to get the job? I do 100%.

I just don't see what value he has outside of coaching. He doesn't seem like a guy who plays well with others...which doesn't seem like a good fit in this front office.

A definite possibility. I would say I give Berube a better chance since he is boys w Jones, but again, you could very well be right.

I mean the best job for him would be VP of Media Relations at this point. In all seriousness I have no clue what the Flyers would do. I don't really see a position that makes sense other than "advisor."

Torts wants to be an advisor? With his ego?

I could not even imagine.

TBH, I think he is back next year. Seems like a large portion of the fanbase love his tactics. I am not one of them but if you read other commentary on social people love the guy bc of "accountability."

At some point I would like to the org top focus on hockey and do away w the side show.

i just think he would push very hard for shaw. so we would see who has more power.

torts loves the loyalty mantra.

Plus berube still being paid by the blues through 2024-25 so maybe he is in no hurry. I also think 100% torts is back unless something really cray or bad happens.

The absolute last thing this team needs is Torts in a managerial position.

They are behind him as long as he can play drill sergeant who browbeats his troops into fighting glory and brings fans into seats. As soon as such collapses occur, and they don't make the playoffs, he is just a drill sergeant who browbeats his troops.

And after that image takes root, he is as good as gone. My personal guess is that this will be by end of 2045-25 season latest (I agree with Landros2 that the end is in sight).

- PT21

I agree. When he was hired, I figured he would be let go somewhere between mid-third season and mid-fourth season. I really don't want him anywhere near Michkov.
When Carolina was struggling a bit earlier in the season, I was hoping Brind'Amour would become available as the Flyers were looking to replace Tortorella, and he would be considered for the job.

We can only dream of getting a coach of the caliber of Brind'Amour in here. He's not going anywhere anytime soon though.

Unfortunately. I was hoping their struggles would continue and he would become available. However, as you said, a coach of his caliber was able to work through it. Then they added some real nice pieces for him to make a run this post-season.
