wtf does torts have to offer in any management/ advisor type role? all he knows is coaching. He would have zero insight for the modern game. He will not be scouting or breaking down players or anything of that sort. He would more likely sabotage things then be a help.

So what will they do seek his opinion on trades? players? that is/would be a joke. yes danny go get the coach more 10 goal scorers who can pk. that is the path to the cup.

that being said I do not see him moving upstairs.

They already seek his opinion on trades and evaluating players.

He already dictates team philosophy and direction.

The only change would be the title and giving up some aspects of coaching day-to-day.

We can only dream of getting a coach of the caliber of Brind'Amour in here. He's not going anywhere anytime soon though.

Unfortunately. I was hoping their struggles would continue and he would become available. However, as you said, a coach of his caliber was able to work through it. Then they added some real nice pieces for him to make a run this post-season.

Ownership is stingy with money, I could see a scenario he’s available soon.

So you’d prefer a gimmick point over both team splitting a point? Only answer is the 3 point system but they won’t do it; they love the “parity”
- ClaudeFather

A) It's not a gimmick, it's a necessity. No broadcaster wants more than 5mins of OT. Very few fans want games ending in ties. People forget how awful it was to watch two teams sitting back in OT trying to hang on to 1 pt.

B) It rewards teams with good goaltenders and skilled players. Teams like the Flyers who have traditionally had a deficit in those two things get punished for their poor management. It's totally fair.

It’s a gimmick and it devalues 60 minutes of 5 on 5 hockey

at the nhl level yes because he is the coach/co-gm1. that changes imo if he gives up coaching.

so you dont think he gives up coaching even when he moves upstairs?

More of an injury luck issue than a coaching issue.

I do not. He'll be ever present and he'll stick his nose in constantly. And he relishes the team-building, player-molding aspect of coaching too much to just give that up.

you going to tell the board why torts going upstairs is terrifying or provide any substance?
- hello it's me 2050

of course he will, and it will go something like this,"The triumphant is a farce, the old guard is still in control, Torts moving the front office will be even worse, it just confirms that Torts is really running things, Berube is just another archaic coach .. blah blah blah blah blah ... "

Personally I don't see him ever leaving coaching. He stated earlier that he doesn't like to watch games from above since he gets no feel for the game from there. I think he will coach or retire. On the other hand I don't think the Flyers can stomach paying yet another coach to not coach the team, so I see Torts sticking out his 4 years here. I suspect in the off season, more players that Torts doesn't like or doesn't think have enough "balls" will be shipped out.

It's funny when people trash the shootout by calling it a coin toss when the Flyers SO win% is .375.

Naw, I think he's in the final year of his deal.

He's actually really low-paid -- his last extension was 3x $1.8M that runs thru 2024. Before that he was making $600k lol. Dudes like Lavi, Cassidy, Torts, Babs etc are making 2-3x that.

There's a chance he could bolt if a team offered him more money than Carolina could afford to pay.

You're actually showing that you still don't understand the NHL standings and how they work. They're in 3rd place in the Metro now because they have the 3rd most points in the metro. Today is not the same as the other day! Please tell me you're not that stupid. That you don't understand that the standings 3 days ago are different from today. You're telling me that I don't know the blue line from a close line while you admit that you ignore hockey in some delusional belief that it's not real hockey. Your concept does not exist. If you don't win the game, you've lost. There are no ties. A loss whether it is in regulation, OT or the shootout is a loss.
Is this an example of how you're going to expose me? Nobody would see a perspective that is unintelligent, delusional and not reality. You've made yourself look like an idiot. Again!

You're trying to fight back. That's great, good for you. Just understand that you can't. Your post above is pathetically stupid. You don't have it in you.

- MJL

It's not about not understanding how the standings work. Of course if two teams are tied in points and one team has played less games than the other team then the team with less games played is above them. I am not , or was not, EVER arguing that point. All I said is at the END of the season, the only thing that matters is points SINCE each team will have played the same number of games, therefore point percentage is irrelevant. Are you with so far or do I have slow down even more for you?

With OT losses, sure they count in the standings. I NEVER argued they didn't count. All I stated was TO ME, I don't consider them when evaluating whether a team is above .500 or not, because OT and shootouts are NOT REAL hockey. At the time of the posting, the Flyers had 28 regulation wins and 27 regulation losses. That is all I consider. Judging a hockey team on OT and shootout results to me is just stupid.

that I agree with. dont think it will work unless he hires rocky or lappy lol.

I still do not see him giving up coaching at all. he would rather be on tv as he loves the spotlight for his ego. upstairs he is out of it.
