Brind'Amour is a big part of why they have a strong team.

Guy's just being a contrarian. He's not even discussing the topic in good faith.

A big part? What exactly has he done Cliff? Install accountability? Did he morph Aho into the player he is today?
- ClaudeFather

Completely changed the way they play do-do brain. Coaching them into being one of the best possession teams in the NHL that is strong defensively and offensively. Coach them into being a perennial contender year after year. It's important to say that I'm not stating that he's one of the best coaches of all time. I'm stating he's one of the best coaches in the game today.

If you think any of their players are anywhere near Matthews, Kuch, Point, Stamkos, Vasy, Hedman, Pasta, Crosby, Bergeron, Shesterkin, McAvoy, Panarin, Tkachuk, etc... I don't know what to tell you.

They aren't a team that's tanked and is full of elite talent. They're a bunch of diamonds in the rough and overlooked castoffs.

- Tomahawk

Try and spin it some more. The Carolina roster is a very strong group. They might not have the biggest names but they have the depth on forward and D. Tampa has won cups. Good thing you named the Toronto guys who haven’t done squat, same with the rangers.

Yeah, that's why they have the league's 3rd best record since he became coach of Carolina. The Flyers are 21st in that time.

Carolina also have 32 playoff game wins under Rod. The Flyers have 10.

- Feanor

How does the blueline talent during that time compare between the teams?

He never does. Platitudes and name calling is the extent of the commentary he can offer.

He's good because he's got all the motivational/inspirational aspects of other coaches but he's patient with young players and skilled players. He also played the game at an elite level himself before so he's not gonna nail dudes to the cross for turning the puck over in an effort to make a play, or trying for an extra pass, or failing to get the puck in deep, etc.

He understands the mindset of the offensive AND defensive player.

And he works hand in glove with their data guys to identify a myriad of ways to do things better... more effective player/game evaluations, better pre-game planning, identifying areas of the ice to exploit, potentially beneficial deployment patterns, etc.

And on top of all that he's a really swell dude that all his players love. He can get along with and earns the respect of the stars, the role players, and the misfits like TDA alike.

- Tomahawk

He's a good, relatable person. He leads by example both on and off the ice, both as a player and coach. Players want to play for him. When was the last time you heard Brind'amour being critical of his players or management, or a player complaining of the communication and treatment by the coach?

He changed the way they play in connection with Eric Tulsky. I don't see that as culture. To me the modern NHL game is about speed, skill and strategy. Using all the tools available to identify, coach and develop players and the strategies used in games. Not about just making a bunch of speeches, calling your team the gold standard of the NHL and laying claim to a mythical and outdated standard.
- MJL

any specific examples on what he has done to develop players? what specific strategies does he employ

Tulsky the other boy wonder who cant seem to get a GM job. 3 2 1 on a certain someone responding to that comment.

Maybe he should have been a little more critical. He’s got his best roster yet, another early exit and this narrative is going to change.

Torts hasn't got a team since over the hump he had a roster with multiple hall of famers in the last pre-cap season.
- Feanor

it was a sarcastic comment...dont most coaches win cups with future hall of fame players on their roster? or was that just limited to torts?

There isn't a single coach in the history of the sport that has been successful without talent. Brind'Amour has been very successful in developing talent. Their organizations forward thinking and use of analytics data has played a huge role in their talent developing. In the construction of their team.

Currently? No. But going into next season? I would like to see what the Flyer's roster looks like going before I can answer this question.

Yup. He can walk the walk. He's still fitter than most guys on the team. Might still be better at hockey than some of them too lol. That earns a lot of respect.

Dudes like Hitch and Torts have to dominate and bully because they know that players don't take them seriously because they never really played. On top of that the Flyers have Rocky Thompson, a guy who's never played in an offensive/PP situation in his (frank)ing life, white boarding all the attack zone plays lol. How are you supposed to take that seriously lol.

Tulsky has done an excellent job there. His strategy has blind spots like everyone but I wouldn’t hold him not getting a GM job as some barometer of his talent. If anything it’s an inditement of the league as a whole that he hasn’t been given a chance.

Right if there is a PP. But OT 3 on 3 is not a PP situation, and 3 on 3 hockey is possible in a regular game, doesn't happen very often, but it has happened.
- TheFreak

3 on 3 cannot happen in a regular game.

The Flyers single biggest issue is the lack of elite talent but offensively, the coaching just isn't there. The coaching staff certainly knows how to coach checking and defensive play and the PK. No clue offensively though. It's just grind out every chance you can get. Which is why they have to play at such a high energy level just to compete.

Your experience does not align with anything involving the Flyers. This isn't going very well for you. It never has and it's not going to change. Using common sense, if I was intimidated, I wouldn't interact.
- MJL

On the contrary, it's exactly why you interact.

that comment was for someone else. would have no issue as trying him out as a GM.

he has won at the margins which the flyers never do.
