No, he's not right and your just being a puppet to everything he says. Effort wise, how did they play in the big games against the big 7? Did it look like they didn't have the balls? All season long this team has played it's balls off for this coach and now he's saying they don't have any? Bullpoop. They're out of gas. Konecny doesn't look close to the player he has been all season. He's ran them into the ground and they're on fumes and hanging on. The coach is an ass.

Anyone with half a brain could see this was going to happen. I said as much at Christmas time. Unsustainable....I am just surprised it took this long.

I'm not sure who you would have given the minutes to, had you been the coach of this team. We had 2 players come back from missing a season, 1 had missed nearly 2 years (but has 7 years left on deal). Torts gave minutes to young players to develop, and put stress on players like TK, because eventually they'll have to decide on whether to resign some of these players. Some have reacted well to the extra ice time, and some haven't. Is that the coach's fault? Torts didn't sign all these players, he's just trying to get as much out of them as possible and get some wins to help develop the younger players. They are also trying to find out who can play at this time of the year. Are we not finding out? May not be the answer we want, but we're getting it.
This team has had this problem for several years now, dating back before Torts. They get to a point energy wise, and then they fall off a cliff. I don't see how how this is the coach's fault. He has cancelled practices and given players maintenance days. Still, somebody has to play the minutes and still we see energy issues.
I look at it differently. We wouldn't know if these players can handle playing in these situations if they weren't competing for a playoff spot at all. And they need to find out who the keepers are.

- BluehorseShoe64

It's not about the minutes. It's about the playoff level intensity all season. The style and system of play. The toll the shot blocking takes. It's not sustainable over a full season in combination.

The guy didn't even have a practice with the team yet. Torts even admitted that he put Fedotov in a very hard situation last night. It was clearly an act of desperation given Ersson was once again off. Fedotov made some nice saves and was also lucky on a few of them. You just wouldn't know it because the closest you have come to ice are the cubes in your freezer.

I actually have no problem with it. Clarke is well known in Russia, he is (in)famous and easily recognizable even by a guy like Fedotov. Trotting out a legend like that was a nice gesture by the organization. Clarke was probably on a plane back to Florida not long after.
- MBFlyerfan

Any chance he took scumbags like Barber, Lombardi, Murray, and Hanrahan with him?

This is a soup kitchen for anyone formerly associated with the team. It’s maddening they continue the same old BS obsession with intangibles, and perpetual half ass retools.

Maddening, but predictable.

Wings beat the lightning on the road last night. TBH, they and the Caps deserve the final spots based on how they have played down the stretch.

I was really encouraged by what I saw from Fedotov last night. I know he's likely too old to be a part of the rebuild (like Hart was haha ) but I'd re sign him and see what he's got. Very quiet motion wise in net.. good positionally and can play the puck well which would help our battered Dmen.

- Hextall271

Difference is that Hart was looking at a long term, $5+ a year extension. Fedotov, even at $2per for 3 years is nowhere near the committment level of what we were looking at for Hart.

This team does not have the talent and elite skill to play any other way. The job of a hockey coach is to get the team to compete, and Torts has done that. The fact is you don't have a clue about anything related to this sport. Just state it, you wanted the Flyers to tank this season, to lose as much as possible so you can diddle yourself over the Flyers being just like the Buffalo Sabres. No thanks! Take your fantasy life elsewhere.
- jd250

Incorrect. I have never supported tanking.

I try to criticize him when I think he deserves it and give him credit when he’s earned it. That being said, I suppose I’m in the minority when it comes to Tortorella’s presser last night. There are many reasons a coach may come off as an angry jackwad from time to time. Sometimes he’s really angry and sometimes he’s gonna say things for shock value to keep the heat off the team. I don’t know what his motives were last night. However, a coach can only do so much. We give too much credit and too much blame to coaches all the time. Taking his words at face value he’s frustrated that the team as a whole and as individuals aren’t necessarily playing “playoff hockey” at a time when it’s needed the most. He didn’t call out their heart or their effort, he was calling out their understanding of how the game must be played this time of year. Again, I’m taking it at face value and I certainly don’t know what’s been said at practices, in the film room, or in the locker room. Again, most of his criticism seemed to be on the way they played in the 2nd period which was an embarrassment to Flyers fans and should’ve been to the team. If it were not for Fedotov, the game could have essentially been over by the end of the 2nd. He said what most of us have been feeling these last couple of weeks.

Sitting Brink last night to insert Deslaurier and Atkinson. Terrible.

He has actually been playing pretty well and has been getting or creating chances on offense.

Rookies were not getting the job done. I understand putting Cam in, he is a vet and has experience in these situations. ND was there to make sure no funny business would happen.

But it seems no matter who plays, the Flyers just suck right now. I would just play the rookies now since they are not making the playoffs.

The season is about to spin into the darkness and I know very little about the folks here. So, when I read their thoughts, I have no idea where they come from.
So I wrote this as an ice-breaker.
It's tough to be part of this community if you only know this visceral, feral mound of emotionally driven discourse as defining a person.

I have received some praise for my writing. No awards,
When I wrote for a National County Veteran's house organ, an attorney in my office was also doing the same. His articles were replete with lots of legalese, citations, etc.
Since our efforts were to assist Service Officers in understanding the USDVA claims system and its pertinent rules, his legal training imposed itself on his scribings.
My office attorney asked how I could make my absolutely correct instructions fun, while his bored. I didn't tell him that is WHO we are.
As my Environmental Law Prof conceded (My first ex denying his proposal of WALKING ME INTO PENN LAW.) my 33 pages of analysis with 550+ citations was the BEST paper he ever read, anywhere and that prompted this offer.
I wrote a life-style piece for a magazine when I was literally starving.
The editors and advertiser liked it. I was offered added work but I am both lazy and a procrastinator. I have been since I got glasses.
I wanted to be an astronaut---seriously.
So yeah, net profit on this slight talent was zero.

I did learn that most people struggle with words. If you are not amusing they drift in their focus. They may have interest but committing to a study session...not so much.
The thing with me is I do this automatically. I'm more of an amusing narrator than a punch-line guy and I write as I speak.
My ex-mil asked my then wife If I was trying to intimidate with my vocabulary,
'Nah. He always talks like that."

So that's one of my aspects. I chose a flattering one. I have others and you will NEVER hear of them.
So now pull back that trench coat and expose yourselves. This may be the fun we have been missing.

torts is a fn fraud. when you gonna realize that? his message is wearing thin. come next November the mutiny will begin in full force.

speaking of Ivan, guess he will be the next flyers player to get over hyped. let him play a nice sample before he is the anointed one or if he falters.

Sam has shown 2 years in a row he "wears" down. Or maybe he just isnt that good. Good be a combo of both. Not like he was lights out in his LHV stint.

- hello it's me 2050

Sam was very good in LHV, but he was overplayed, and was worn out come the playoffs. He had played like double the amount of games that year than he had played before.

He has played in 46 games this year...46 as a rookie....has over 20 wins in his rookie year. He was thrust into the starters job, and for the most part, has been very good.

Patience is needed with the goaltending situation

Tortorella's Flyers are 18th in the NHL and out of a playoff spot by P%.

Does he still get coach of the year consideration if they finish 20-something?

P% doesn't count, only real points count, and we are third baby!!!!!

after what Ivan saw he may not want to re-sign.....

I play him as the main goalie the rest of the way unless he schitts the bed.

Sam gassed 2 years in a row, what's that tell?

That the organization as a whole has poor player management.

I assume Torts was talking about Farabee when he mentioned players not ready to play in these conditions. Can't wait for them to sell him for pennies on the dollar this offseason.

So in your mind if Couts had played 17 minutes a game instead of 20+, and if Sanheim had played 22 minutes per game instead of 27 earlier in the season, the Flyers would be playing better now? How else could this Flyers team have played in order to compete? They don't have the talent and elite skill, so they have to win with effort and will. Are you saying it would have better if the players didn't try to so hard earlier in the season so they would have more juice now?

Yes, under the situation: If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season. I was never talking about this scenario, I was referring to the END of the regular season when all teams have played the same number of games. In this case, points and then tie breakers determine what team is ahead of the other team. The fact that two teams are tied in points in the regular season so points percentage is used is not relevant to the post I made.

Changes my ass, same old country club FO as it’s always been.

My first thought when I saw this pic was " Why is Clarke there?"
