I actually love that you asked this. And I'm being genuine. The answer is yes and no. Yes in that he was on the ice for more scoring chances, goals against, expected goals against than all of that for the Rangers compared to the guys who got thrown out.

No in the sense, because obviously those 4 didn't play so it's impossible to say they would have played better or worse.

In short, the 4 guys tossed didn't do enough to impact the game negatively. Zibanejad did. And boy oh boy was he bad. Woof.

You are correct, of course. But, I'd love to hear your explanation of the math that says the 4 guys kicked out before the puck even touched a stick had below average defense in the game. If that is what the model spits out for non-information, it is flawed from the start.

I definitely had no idea about the secondary fights/game misconduct rule

Im not sure but it could be that the players who played, had played well thus mitigating those who didnt, below them.

Tom is that the case?

That has to be a recently adopted rule bc that wasn't in place in 2012.

I dont think it was in place when all the Rangers dropped the gloves at beginning of game vs Tom Wilson either

The HST model factors in penalties taken and faceoffs. The 4 Rangers were on the ice for a faceoff lost and each took a penalty. Those are both negatives. Hence they fall on that side of the trendline.

Dawg, what's the problem? People are asking, it's not an argument. I explained it without sarcasm and without being condescending.

I knew of the rule, but I definitely don't remember them enforcing it this way when we gave our response to Washington after the Wilson/Panarin event. I'm not sure I feel it's applied correctly when you try to say these bouts were not all connected as one altercation.

Ok, I didn't think about the fact being on for penalties would effect the rating. That makes sense. But, I'll dispute the lost faceoff! The only reason their center was able to touch the puck was that he was too timid to be part of the fights until forced into it!!

I thought the Cuylle-Wenny-Kakko line was fantastic. If Laviolette deploys these guys as their "shut down" line in the playoffs you'd get no argument from me. Loved their game. Kakko since his return has been very SOLID. I still think his a top 6 player but not with CK and MZ. Those 2 have proven difficult to mesh with and is fine in his current role. Best case is, assuming he is still on the team is he plays with Chytil next season. I'll sign for that and hopefully he has a Laf-like bump in production.

That being said, I thought Roslovic was better. He needs to stop deferring to those two and just start putting the puck on net and play his game.

1000% agree with this. That line has been good, Wennberg was the perfect addition.

The fact that Secondary applies within a second of Vesey dropping his gloves is an inane application of the rule

Why was Lav. pissed at Greene? Putting McDermid on to start the game?

He is so smart with the puck. Would LOVE to re-sign him and use him on the 4th line with the proper players to complement his skill. Not sure if it would fit with what we hope is the return of Chytil.

Could use him as a winger too I suppose. But hopefully some of he youngsters are ready to take that next step.

no, all the other Devils starting fights

Laviolette put Rempe out there because he knew McDermid and Rempe needed to get it over with

That's fine. I get why you disagree, because in the grand scheme of that game those two events were nothing burgers. But it's just tracked "data"

I answered above Brukie. Sorry I didn't respond directly to you. Didn't think the actual explanation would be a problem. Yet...
