It's a combination of issues in my opinion. Tortorella wants the team to understand that they have to raise their game this time of year. The issue is that they've been playing at playoff level intensity for the entire season. Having to play at that level to compete. With intensive skating, shot blocking etc. There is no other gear for this team. They've already been there. It's not a situation where the team has to learn that as Tortorella thinks. They're tired, beat up and other team have now ramped up their game. Teams that are out of it, some players are playing for jobs and some don't feel any pressure. The lack of scoring is catching up to them. Goaltending is not at a high level.

The more you think about this team in a 3-5 year window. They simply don’t have the luxury to sign konecny. There’s very little upside. They need to continue turning the roster over and get set for michkovs arrival and having high end prospects flood in at that time and 1 or 2 years after. More 1st round picks
