What about only AHL Players then? You can add a player in event of injury but it’s only a guy signed to a 2way contract?

Reward the teams with organizational depth

- Big23Questions

AHL players are not necessarily on 2-way contracts - at least for the Leafs, the vast majority of them are not.

He's running an insane amount:

And he's running the London Marathon this upcoming Sunday.

Weirdly, his 5th Avenue Mile time is horrendous.

Figures a guy who played with a broken jaw enjoys something as heavy on the suffering as distance running.

Lol

I'd love to know his daily caloric intake as a runner, how much sugar does a wookie need

It would be interesting to see how many pounds he is below his old playing weight:

That was my first guess, but it looks too big for that (maybe?).

I'm going to Google around.

If a team A clinches the playoffs 2 weeks before the actual playoffs and rests all of it's players then team B makes it in the playoffs on the last game of the season, isn't that an unfair proposition for playoff hockey?

And then doesn't it also skew the results of all the final weeks of the games if teams aren't dressing their best players, for example Team A has players "resting" against Washington but not against Detroit, so then that favors Washington?!?!

I kinda think no team should get to "rest" any player. Play the (frank)ing season.

- underhill14

If a team clinches with 2 weeks left don't you think they've earned the right to rest important players? Doing well in regular season needs to be worth something more than 1 extra home game per series.

And it's not like resting players guarantees a series win.

Solved:

https://www.endurancespor...nsor-for-boston-marathon/

Edit: here's the company website:

https://nixbiosensors.com/

Looks really cool if you have more money than you know what to do with.

Otherwise, just drink the Gatorade they hand you at every station along the course.

OK, so just farting around on the website:

The biosensor is $181. It's the black, hexagonal thingy you see on Chara's arm (not the neon green part). I'm on the Canadian website, so let's be optimistic and say that's in CDN. OK, that's not really outrageous.

The good news is that it comes with 4 patches. That's the green part. It sticks to you skin, and if I am reading the website correctly, it is the thing that senses your hydration levels, as well as your electrolytes, and all that other training BS.

The bad news is these babies are single use only.

So you're gonna hafta purchase more.

A box of 20 is $158.

When I started this, I was going to rip on how bloody expensive this is, but it actually isn't that bad. You would only use them for your long runs (1 per week) and maybe one other run a week.

So an extra $400 per marathon training cycle.

I sincerely doubt it would help in any way for the weekend warrior (or even Chara, who I suspect will never break 3 hours - nor will I!), but then again, Mr. Chara has a little bit more time and disposable income than me.

If he's done 3:10, how hard is it to shave 10 minutes to get under 3 hours?

All hail the Googles!

I found this article about him completing the Clash Daytona half-triathlon in December 2023:

https://triathlonmagazine...-for-world-championships/

"Last Sunday the tall and powerful Slovak (he weighed in at 238 lbs/ 108 kg before the competition – that’s 22 lbs/ 10 kg less than he weighed during his hockey career) finished 18th in the men’s 45 to 49 age group, and first in the Clydesdale category."

I'm kinda surprised he's only lost 22 lbs.

Running a 3:10 marathon with so much muscle is insane.

Chara ran the Boston Marathon in 3:30. Apparently he's already done a 3:10 marathon. What a savage.
- Zezel

That's nuts. I ran 15km on Saturday and my legs were still dying today when I did a shorter run after work. Saturday's run was the longest run I've done since before I had acl reconstruction over 10 years ago. I'm working towards a half marathon in the early fall, and if that goes ok, I'd like to run a marathon in the year after I retire, which is in 3 years or so.

Excellent question.

Looking at his times, his biggest problem right now is he's running far too many marathons. One a month ensures you won't have an optimal time. And he's combining it with training for triathlons.

10 minutes is a ridiculous amount of time, once you've established yourself as a runner (meaning it's easy if you run your first marathon on a lark, then start training).

But we aren't dealing with Larry from Accounting, who's decided he wants to run a marathon. This is a world-class athlete, who has all the time and money to train.

On the one-hand, he's done 7 marathons. But that's really only been in the last year.

Oh poop, I'm rambling.

So here's my answer:

If Chara decides to only run 2 marathons a year, and cuts out the triathlon training, I wouldn't bet against him.

If he continues to run one a month, no way in hell.

Under three hours is really tough.

For a guy with his physique, it's really, really tough.

As a guy 45-49, it's really, really, really tough.

He ran 3:10 in the Houston Marathon, which is known as a fast course.

524 guys in his age group finished the marathon.

21 were under 3 hours.

Right. Make it then so it can only be a player signed to an AHL contract.

Interesting idea.

And when I say "interesting", I actually mean that Big23 is probably high on crack and has no idea what the frank he's saying.

Really interesting idea, Big23.

What the hell man. Where did that come from? Not sure why you felt the need be an ass…unless it’s a joke I’m completely missing which I apologize then.

I don’t have a clue about stuff like cap or things like how to adjust for teams circumventing - it was just a half hearted idea eh.
