Makes you wonder if this is Carter's last game before retirement. I always figured he'd try to stay in the league for another season, but the guys seemed a little more excited for him when he scored than they normally would in a meaningless game.

It is. That's why his whole family and bestie Jonathan Quick are in attendance watching.

There is no such thing as a meaningless hockey game. There’s kids there at their first NHL game, may be one guys last NHL game, on the other side it’s a guys first. This game isn’t meaningless just because you think it is.

I think its kinda funny that the only two years Crosby/Malkin played all 82 games together, they missed the playoffs both years. The only time the two of them missed the playoffs together.

the term "meaningless" is in regards to the playoff picture, not that the game is literally meaningless for everyone involved.

Always cool to see things like the Islanders lining up to shake Carter's hand at the end. Great career, but all good things as they say.

Don't let Sully challenge things anymore. When's the last time we won one of those?

Move number one for Dubas is to extend Ned!

Oilers get bounced in the first round. Dubas trades for Draisaitl.

I don't think teams win with players like Bunting. Don't confuse Bunting with Marchand, Gallagher, Tkachuk, etc. Bunting isn't a grinder, he's not a pest, or a glue-guy. Bunting is a weasel with no heart, no self respect, and his antics cause half of the room to actually be embarrassed for their own team because of him.

He is a MUCH better player, but PK Subban had a similar affect on teammates. When guys are out there just blowing smoke and making a mockery of the game...the team gets divided and certain players actually begin to question "is this the right team for me? I mean, if they have hired this f4n guy...I don't know if I'm in the right spot".

I'm sure there are many other issues with the Pens, but teams with idiots like Bunting just don't win. This guy is a cancer to any team.

Sounds like you have a gripe with Bunting.

Toronto didnt win before Bunting, with Bunting, or after Bunting. No idea why you are singling him out.

Bunting has been a breathe of fresh air since coming here.

His contract is also for only two more years, so worst case he will be gone in two years and the contract is very tradable in any case. But so far I have been impressed and am looking forward to seeing what he can do next season.

Going back to RW's blog, I beg to differ regarding Letang and EK. While both put up good offensive numbers this season both also have had many critical defensive lapses. Sometimes all it takes is one or two to lose a game. The problem these guys present is twofold: 1) they put extra pressure on their pairing mates, and most of the other Pens defensemen are not that good, and 2) other teams just wait for them to make mistakes and then just pounce on them. I think their number one focus for next season should be to make less mistakes. If that means not pushing the offense as much so be it.

The PP was worse than inept this season. It didn't just fail to score but also gave up many SHG's. Again it comes down to a few mistakes. Fixing this is even more important than getting an effective PP again.

And regarding the depth lines, I think that matters more when you have a good team. Good third and fourth lines are what separate good, playoff caliber teams from great, Cup-contending teams. The Pens are not even a good playoff caliber team at the moment. True, if they had better depth they might have made the playoffs. But with how they play defensively they would likely get beat bad in the first round.

I also hope that the Bruins gets swept in the first round for throwing that game against the Capitals.

Bunting is the type of player the Pens needed.
