Toronto could have Scotty bowman in his prime and it wouldn’t matter. They built the team too top heavy. They have 4 guys making too much and the rest of the roster is generally the pits, especially the D. They are too far from a playoff roster. They need to trade Marner imo and get like 3 guys who make the same amount but give them a host of depth players. But good depth players. Ryan Reaves is important to them and that’s a problem because we know how little importance he can bring. It certainly isn’t on the ice

That contract of Tavares's is basically untradeable, plus he's their captain and has a NMC. They'd have to attach an asset to move him. Marner is their only realistic option to move this offseason, and I agree with TJ that they should do it if they lose this series vs boston. Could get a good return for him and invest that money in a top 4 dman, plus more.

You could see it a mile away how difficult they will be that’s why the division was so so important. Hopefully whoever wins that series is severely damaged for next rd and we sweep, 5 games the most. Isles and canes need some OT games, like every game double/triple OT

It was all Canes first 12 mins or so, and ever since 5 mins into the second. But isles scored 3 times in their short stretch of being good.

Its not untradeable if they retain 50% and get a 3rd party involved. Marner also has a fully locked up NMC. So if neither wants to be traded, they wont.

I don't think you can eat that much dead cap room if you want to win a cup, even with a second team involved. Marner has a NMC, but I think the understanding is that if the team came to him and asked him to waive instead of beginning extension negotiations, he probably would.

I don't know if he would, it's not his problem (although part of the reason) that the Leafs are in cap hell. Why should he be the one to take the hit.

I (frank)ing hate the Islanders. More than 25 minutes of hockey left and they were already collapsing in front of the net and dumping everything for icing.
