If you think the guy you’re moving up for is going to be a #1 defenseman it’s not steep at all. Look back at what they traded for a 35 year old Chris Pronger. Two 1sts, Sbisa (previous seasons 1st rd pk), Lupul, and a 3rd rd pk.

This appears to be a somewhat shallow, 14 player draft. I’d rather they find a way to get a 2nd top 14 pick than move up from their first pick. If the Panthers pick plus both 2nds can do it I wouldn’t hesitate. Would most likely take more though.

After watching Eiserman snipe goal after goal at the WJC-18, I would be very excited to see him here. Get Michkov to feed him pucks and I can see Eiserman being a prolific scorer. PLay them on each side of Couturier for his defensive acumen. He wont have to worry about scoring with those two running wild in the offensive zone.

Honestly if they got Eiserman I would have them on their own lines and pair them together on powerplays and end of the game situations. In that situation only thing missing is a center that would compliment one of them...maybe they get a Hage or Connelly as a surprise with Florida pick, maybe they can get Luke Misa in the 2nd if Columbus gives up their pick or maybe they take a dump next year and get either Hagens or the other Misa brother?

With Eiserman and Michkov, that would allow the Flyers to offer other wingers (TK, Farabee maybe) to get that young center or to add to the D.

I feel like with Eiserman it’s really going to come down to his interview with teams. Does he acknowledge the deficiencies in his game, and if he does, do you believe he’ll work at improving them. There are plenty of players who became elite players despite deficiencies in their draft year. Look at Dallas with Robertson, Johnston, and Stankoven. Each had deficiencies that resulted in them with mostly 2nd rd grades.

I would love to see the Flyers land a Catton or Eiserman at #12.

I'm a little scared the Flyers somehow win the lottery (#2 or #3) and end up drafting a dud....not sure why I get that feeling.

- Glak18

If they got up into the top-3 I'm almost positive they'd take Lindstrom:

6-4, fast, skilled, great shot, physical, character, recently converted to C. Plus dude's got an injury history and we know the Flyers always love that.

I’d like to see them explore a trade centered around TK to acquire a top 8 pick. I would prefer they trade guys already in the organization than draft picks.

From what I’ve read/heard, next year’s draft is much deeper at center but thinner at defense, basically the opposite of this year. The focus this year should be getting one of the top defenseman. I look at Ottawa and Utah as teams with new owners who may want to compete right away and think is there a package centered on TK that can get one of their picks without giving up either of the 1sts.

I think Columbus is going to take him at #4.

Laughton I could see going to the kings. The po there was terrible and he could be a useful player there. Would still love to find a way to pry Clarke from them though it’s take more than just laughts

Immediate comparison for me is Byfield...but knowing the Flyers he will dud out. The kid has size and all the tools, but Flyers gonna Flyer.

Wow, I'm surprised they would pass on the Russians. With Flahr involved with the draft, I believe they have stayed away from prospects with an injury history. I kind of figured it was the reason they chose Gauthier over Jiricek. Ugh.

If the Flyers stay where they are now (unless there's a surprise drop/rise) the defensemen in that range I don't see much better than later in the round. That's just me. Unfortunately the Flyers range puts them in a good spot to get a decent falling forward.

He's.... a bit of a bad interview tho. Like recently he described his 200-foot game as "perfect" lol, when everybody knows it's far from.

I'm hearing lots of good things about this Catton kid. Like, he could have the highest upside with his speed and skill. Is this true?

How many of the first round picks are broccoli heads with names ending in den/don?

I'm a big fan, I'd actually take him in the top 5...maybe 3 if I was the Flyers.

Might be too many eggs in the Russian basket. They aren't out of the woods yet with Michkov. Imagine if they drafted Demi and BOTH of them got stuck there due to the same oligarch's whims.

Interesting to see NHL folks are still so bullish on Silayev. He still hasn't showed a hint of having an offensive side to his game. He's got every tool in the book but so did Adam Larsson.

I just saw McKenzie's list and he has Catton ranked at 11th. Has Eiserman at 13 and Lindstrom at 5th.

Agree, I think they’ll need to move up to at least 8 to get any of the top 5 D.

It's a concern with the issues of getting them out of Russia, but 2 of the 4 prospects are already here. They should feel pretty good about their ability to get those deals done. If the Flyers stay at 12, I could see them having a lot of interest in Yakemchuk. I believe Briere/Jones have no issue overloading with blueline prospects, and use a defensive prospect to trade for forward help in the future.

Yikes. Even the best players have areas they need to improve. If he can’t identify those areas then that doesn’t bode well.

Well I see Catton in the Cooley category, obviously not a 1:1 comparison, but in that category.

Nice! I'd like to see the Flyers go after someone with a potential high upside versus the safe pick (as others have said on here).

McKenzie doesn't seem too thrilled with him. Has him ranked at 13th.
