And yet, even if the Leafs miss, they're still better off in every way than the Sens

It's a beautiful thing.

Tee off would still be at the same time.

But at least our team's climbed out of the basement.

Forgot to open the door though. Nose is kinda stinging.

Sounds like you're setting the bar for success a little low.

But I guess when your team has had so little success over the past decade, when compared to the Senators, any little perceived advantage that you can see, is a victory in your eyes.

In any case the race for the wildcard spots is certainly interesting, and when comparing toronto vs the teams, two of which they need to finish ahead to secure a playoff spot, I see the team they definitely need to finish ahead of foremost, is the Blue Jackets and then the Capitals. Plus, all the teams in the race have game(s) in hand over the leafs.

Who was it that said "the games in hand don't matter too much"???

Rangers .569 / 95.0% Chance of making PO........ one game in hand
Detroit .563 / 68.9% Chance of making PO.......... two games in hand
Columbus .549 / 56.6% Chance of making PO....... two games in hand
Washington .549 / 31.8% Chance of making PO..... one game in hand
toronto .548 / 34.5% Chance of making PO

Well the Leafs just caught, and passed Tampa. Once again, you were wrong.

Also, can you please update your "true standings" stats.

Thanks in advance. Much love xo

I never said games in hand didn't matter. I was explaining to you what point percentage meant.... not my fault it's still a concept you can't grasp.

This is a Leafs VS Sens thread. Frankly, comparing the Leafs to the Sens at all is setting the bar really low.

You know, the link you posted earlier didn't say the draft was crap, it said there weren't any stand-outs. That implies that the talent late in the 1st isn't far off from the talent earlier in the first. Gives you a chance at grabbing someone who should have gone earlier, and fell due to team needs or other things.

Pretty much an identical description as the 2006 draft, that yeilded Giroux and some other pretty good guys in the latter half of the 1st, and the second round.

It's drafts like this where getting many picks is a good idea.

- Feeling Glucky?

I never characterized the 2014 draft as "crap" those might be someone else's words, but not mine.

I simply relayed what Bob McKenzie said on his 2014 draft pre-view show that aired a few weeks ago. He pointed out, that compared to the last couple, and next years, this upcoming draft is weaker in comparison, after the top three or four picks.

Bob McKenzie
"There appears to be a lot of volatility in this year's mid-season rankings. NHL scouts don't seem as fully sold on this year's first-round prospects, especially those ranked from No. 11 through to 30."

In fact he wrote this as well
Bob McKenzie
"But the scouts also cautioned that the top-end prospects this year are still excellent talents, just not necessarily potential stars."

So even the top three or four potential players selected don't measure up well, when compared to previous drafts.

Yeah I know.

Comparing the Senators to a team that has only made the playoffs once since 2004, is pretty low.

Lets be honest- the senators are an NHL team in name only. The owner would love to put less money in them than other teams put in their AHL affilates.

At least Toronto's ownership wants to win... even if they're not 100% sure how to do that

My 8th-greatest fear is that Melnyk continues to use the team as an ATM, taking any profits from the team and filtering them into his other businesses. As you say, he seems to want to just turn a profit, with a secondary (or tertiary) priority being acual success on the ice. We may be in for some lean years over here, so be gentle.

That is your take.

But I don't see it that way. If your "take" ever became a perception, then fans in Ottawa would voice their concerns, and even take the step of stopping to buy tickets.

This would never happen in toronto, as the fans would continue to fill the building, paying the highest ticket prices in the NHL, no matter how bad the product on the ice was.

What was it that Ballard used to say.........................."as long as there are bums in the seats, it doesn't matter if I have bums on the ice"

Most Senators fans are pretty down to earth people. I like most of you... and I really wish you'd all stay out of this thread so I don't feel bad about telling Dopps what's happening with his team.

Unfortunately for you, Melnyk's taken that page out of Ballard's book... and used it as wallpaper in his house.... and all the other houses/mansions he's going to buy n the backs of Senators fans.

You might want to focus on what's happening with your team, as Ottawa will be fine in the long run. Don't forget the Senators undertook a re-build and are perhaps half way through it at best.

Here is an interesting article, by one of this site's bloggers.

There’s also the toronto maple leafs, who really haven’t shown any change, but have largely been one of the league’s worst possession teams for the duration of the season. There’s healthy skepticism they can continue to win despite being woefully out-shot on a consistent basis, and their recent slide has only further fuelled the fire.

Melnyk will be fine.
Ottawa as a city will continue to exist, though filled with as many politicians as it is, I doubt "fine" is the term I'd use.

But the Senators? Well, Melnyk seems to be in good health, and isn't exactly old... and I doubt his desire for every cent possible is going anywhere... so... enjoy Ottawa's Ballard.

They won 4 more cups than the Senators ever have with him as the chairman of the Leafs... so I'm assuming that yes, they did make it to the Cup Finals a few times.
