Bill Meltzer: Star Gazing: Awaiting an Opponent - Bill_Meltzer
Bill, thanks for an article on the Stars. Underdogs for sure against Tampa Bay but there is always a chance, especially if Benn continues to play "Beast mode", Miro continues to show he is really elite and Khudoben shines in goal. Also the Stars have a lot deeper team than a lot of people realize. |

Bill, Have you been impressed with Pavelski's play? |

If Seguin turns the corner Dallas should go head to head.

The stars really do an incredible job of marking men and tying up sticks in their own zone. Teams rarely get 2nd chances or rebound opportunities against Khudobin |

it's a crime that you're a Stars blogger, nothing all (frank)ing year and they make it to the stanley cup finals and suddenly you chime in... ridiculous |

further to that you clearly didnt watch them, you're reading a stat sheet.
If you had watched the Stars this season (or any since Bishop arrived), you would know their offensive studs have bought into the defense-first. I'm not surprised Khudobin has carried them because it's not about who is in the blue paint, they simply take away the middle of the ice in their zone. They'll let you take shots all day long from the outside, but they own the middle of the ice. The FCC line of Faksa, Cogliano and Comeau have gone toe-to-toe with each and every team's top line all year long. They are very comfortable playing in low-scoring, high tension games.
Also the vets have really stepped it up in the playoffs, and this team is mostly vets. Benn has awoken from hibernation, Pavelski decided to find his game after returning to SJ for a game just before Christmas and brought that guy to the bubble. Sekera has been so good on the back end after looking old all year. Oleksiak is a guy they had to shelter prior to these playoffs but has totally found another level to his game. He was basically the same player as Joel Edmundson but has far surpassed that and cemented his spot as a top 4 guy, stepping up and claiming Roman Polak's spot when he decided not to join the team in the bubble.
The craziest part of their current run is that guys like Seguin and Hintz aren't really playing that well. They're not liabilities out there, but they're not difference makers either.
The lightning are a formidable team but the islanders aren't done yet. No matter who comes out of the East they'll have their hands full. |

I really want to see the Avs play the Stars again...this time with a healthy lineup in a 7 games series. You know, for kicks and giggles :-) |
