Flyers totally butchered the whole DeAngelo thing.

They gave up 3 picks to get him from Carolina (a 4th, a 3rd and a 2nd), signed him to a 2-year deal at $5 mil per, try to trade him back to the Canes a year later for a prospect while retaining 50% of his salary, but hit a snag with the NHL because that trade was deemed illegal, and then are forced to release him outright so the Canes could get him back for $1.8 mil.

So the Canes essentially loaned the Flyers his services for a year to play meaningless hockey on a bad team for 3 picks and then were able to resign him at a rate even less than what the Flyers were trying to get them to pay in taking him back. I'd love to revisit all these trades the Canes acquired in this fiasco in a few years to see which ones make this look even worse for the Flyers.

Not a Flyers fan, but Briere is not to blame for this, but rather breaking the shackles of the previous regime.

He sucks and, frankly, there's no reason to acquire him.
