Somehow this organization still believes they are just a player or two away from being a legitimate threat.
Ownership groups don't like rebuilding because it is a guaranteed revenue loss in the short term for hopeful revenue gain in the long term. Plenty of teams get stuck in a rebuilding phase with no meaningful improvements which ends up being many millions in revenue lost relative to just being a mediocre at best team like Calgary is right now. Much easier for us fans to want to rebuild when we aren't the ones with the financial risk. |

How many times today will the media ask McDavid about Bedard's broken jaw, and missing a big chunk of time during your rookie season? |

Do you know what else loses revenue? Being a bad hockey team. |

Which is exactly what a rebuilding team is.

Yeah, but then at least for some period you end up paying a roster a hellsa lot less for a bit too. |

Yes but a rebuilding team has at least a chance of getting better. The Flames roster as it stands only has a chance of getting older. |

I will use the Habs as an example. They have been essentially rebuilding for at least 2yrs now and the fans shifted from being consistently unhappy with their 7th to 10th place team, to being actually rather excited about the team. They're still pretty bad, but they've got a charismatic coach that seems to be playing the long development game, they've got some very good young players, and the general attitude around Montreal is pretty positive about the team. Their rebuild seems to be going in the direction that everyone wants.
Just thought I'd throw this into the conversation (as an Oilers fan observing the local MTL team and fans). Habs fans have been SO upset with their team for like 20yrs...they're finally acting rather positive. |

Yes and I'm stating most ownership groups don't want to risk the chance of taking that GUARANTEED loss. There's also a chance they end up in a perpetual rebuild like Buffalo which I'm sure has cost the Pegula net worth millions of dollars. How many people change jobs to another industry with the CHANCE they can earn more in the long term? Probably not as many that should, because risk aversion and immediate gratification/opportunity costs are a serious consideration for most people. |

Easy on Sean, he’s not old enough to remember the Yakapov selection. |

I mean Calgary is doing a fine job humiliating themselves on their own. At least a ping pong ball gives them something for it. |

Couple called back but still closer than it should have been. Breathe a sigh of relief, take the 2 points and move on. |

Skinner played great again, not too worried about our goaltending anymore. |

2015 - Brandon Manning takes Conner McD out of the rookie race.
2023 - Brendan Smith takes Conner Bedard out of the rookie race.
What's with the Brandon/Brendan's and their hatred of Conner's?
At least a blackhawk fought Brendan afterwards. Edmonton management gave Brandon a job!
