Good job Newbie, the Canucks were lucky last night, DeSmith and the team weren't on their game and the result was kind of a culmination of the bad habits that were creeping into their game since the beginning of the homestand. Good that they salvaged a point, and good that they have the All-Star break coming up so that they can reset, have some fun and then RT can have at least 2 or 3 good practice days to get them ready for the stretch run.

Gonna be a good, high-end sprint for the rest of the season after the All Star break. Via Drance/Athletic:

On the other side of an All-Star weekend that will be heavily punctuated by the five attending Canucks players and a sixth representative in Tocchet, the Canucks are in for a two-and-a-half-month gauntlet.

It’s a stretch that promises the most exciting hockey Canucks fans have been able to attend and savour in over a decade.

It starts with a road trip in early February that will see the Canucks face two legitimate contender-level sides on the road — the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes — right off the hop, followed by a tough weekend back-to-back through Detroit and Washington.

When the Canucks return home they’ll host a Colorado Avalanche side that humbled them in late November and a Winnipeg Jets team they’ve run neck and neck with at the apex of the Western Conference over the past few weeks. They’ll also begin a slate of four games against the reeling Los Angeles Kings.

Between the All-Star break and the end of the season, the Canucks will play the Vegas Golden Knights twice, the Avalanche twice and the Jets three times. They’ll also have one more matchup against the Edmonton Oilers.

What awaits the Canucks is an opportunity to scramble for first place in the Western Conference, an incredible sentence to write given the external preseason expectations for this group, while playing a murderer’s row of the best sides in the West on an almost every-night basis. It’s going to be a non-stop blast for fans, and an incredible challenge for a team that’s put itself in position to accomplish something special.

These past few games haven't had the same weight after Toronto, but the boys should be locked in for this stretch drive

Big trade on the Pettersson front:

“I mean, after the summer, I was in top shape, but when I went up in flex, I had to make the stick longer, and I was so focused about the flex and everything, and I’ve never played with a taller stick, I always play to about mid-neck,” Pettersson explained while motioning that his previous stick went up to around his nose in length.

“So what I realized is my puckhandling felt fine, but it wasn’t as normal as it had always been, so I went back to a shorter stick, and with that, I went back to 87. But they made it a little stiffer, so it’s like in between 87 and 95ish.”

Traded his stick for another stick. That was about 10-15 games ago though. Old news.

Not a great game by 95% of the team, Pettersson was awful in OT, they were lucky to get a point out of that. On a positive note, Quinn Hughes, kids an amazing player.

“With two assists tonight, Captain Quinn becomes the 8th fastest defenceman in NHL history to 300 NHL points (331 games).”

“Perry was dropped by the Blackhawks for flirting with an NBC staff member while intoxicated on a road trip with the team in Columbus.”

So now we know. No biggy.

I mean, it feels like there has to be more than that... because that's not really anything. Especially for a hockey player.

Maybe "flirting" was (verbal) sexual harassment? Because otherwise, that's sort of... light?

Yeah, I'm guessing he said something offensive or was just too aggressive about it. No way he loses millions over "flirting"

He took that back a few hours later. Admitted it was false.
Perry wouldn't tell the teams interested in him including the Oilers. They took a chance on him, probably because E Kane worked out for him.

Does that timeline correlate to his scoring rate changing dramatically?

Yes, apparently:

What’s perhaps most interesting is that Pettersson said he made the switch around 10-15 games ago, which coincides with right around when he went on his recent scoring tear. It was shortly after making this switch that Pettersson was named the NHL’s first star of the week after scoring five goals and adding four assists through four games.

John Scott is an insider for Chicago and NBC. No way he goes on record and says what he said if it ain’t true. I think he was told to walk it back. It makes sense to me as Scott explained that they are ultra sensitive in Chicago right now. And the fact Perry drunkenly flirted with a media member pissed team management off.

To me, that makes a lot of sense.

Was there a missed call on Petey in OT or was he just falling down all the time again lol?

As for Hughes the kid is just money having a Norris style year like Makar did a few years back. Remember a few of us said 4-5 years ago Hughes would be in the Norris conversation and most of the champs had a good laugh...

Look at it now.

If it was more than flirting then why would the NHL allow him to keep playing, especially considering the microscope they are under, and why would Edmonton sign him and risk a PR disaster when they are currently rewriting nhl history?

Too minor to file a law suit but egregious enough for a suspension. Seems like a fair call considering no one else is explaining what happened.
