Thanks Yorkie! Great debut, all over the game and killing minutes on the pk and final minutes. Pretty impressive! That first tip, not a lot of guys can bring that back to the net.

Who are generation dmen? Nieds, Pronger, Lindstrom? It will be interesting to see if Makar and Hughes have a similar rivalry to Niedemeyer/Lindstrom

He played well last night, had a really good game. Looks like a different player compared to last season.

Again...it's a term used way too loosely by most, yourself included. Of the five best defensemen in NHL history, just my opinion, Orr, Harvey, Bourque, Lidstrom, Potvin, only one would be considered a generational talent. And that's Bobby Orr.

Anyone who thinks there's been 20 some odd generational NHL talents in the past 100 years, all positions, doesn't understand what the term generational truly means. Just my humble opinion.

Been great to see. The weight of his injuries and his dad's health/death took their toll. He looks like a different player to his first year, but it's a better rounded player.

Maybe. I guess it’s just a different criteria. To me the best player of their respective generation is generational. Call me crazy.

Lidstrom, Pranger and Niedermayer were all drafted within 4 years........ How you could list all 3 as generational is mind blowing

Mark Howe, Sergei Zubov and Rob Blake were just as good as Scott Neidermayer in my opinion. I don't know if you're old enough to have watched Mark Howe but he was an unbelievably good player, such a smooth skater, I think he was around +400 in his career during a high scoring era. He was so good.

It's all so very subjective and depends on your experiences watching all of these guys.

I didn’t see any of those guys lead their team to what is the ultimate goal in hockey. Again, call me crazy.

I've always disliked the whole "You aren't great unless you've won championships" argument especially in team sports because so much depends on the team around you. It's one thing in basketball where 1 player can literally take over a game and can win a ring on their own like Magic, Bird, Jordan, LeBron, and Curry could but the Stanley Cup is literally the hardest championship to win in sports and even the best team in the league can lose due to injuries/fatigue during a playoff run.

Which is why I said it's such a subjective thing because I didn't see Scott Niedermayer lead his team either. Was he a really good player, yes, obviously, but he played on some really really talented teams.

Why he won the Conn Smythe in Anaheim is beyond me, it should've went to Pronger or Getzlaf, but he was nearing the end of his career and they gave it to him with an 11 point playoff performance. I realize it wasn't just about points, he was so good at transitioning the puck with his skating, but I don't think he should've won it.

You're out if your mind if you don't think players like Ray Bourque and Nik Lidstrom aren't generational players.

Bourque is a 5 time Norris trophy winner Cup winner and in the Hall of Fame and a 19 time all star. He played 1600 games and scored over a 1000 points as a defenseman. When he retired at 40 years old, he has just finished 2nd in Norris trophy voting.

Nick Lidstrom won 7 Norris trophies, 4 Stanley Cups and was a 12 time all star. Is in the Hall of Fame. Also won the Conn Smythe. Won his 7th Norris trophy at age 40 and in his last year in the league at 41, finished in the top 5 of voting. Played over 1500 games and scored over 1100 points.

There isn't a defenseman in the league today who are close to being as good as they were.
